Hey alll, I LOVE George Michael's music since I was a kid. Recently gone all in with Christ and want to know if George Michaels songs are ok to listen too?
Claudias music has always been part of humanities make up. Be it sung by Christian or non Christian alike. There will always be secular music that we enjoy and with the memories they reflect. To me it be a personal matter within the privacy of your own home. Not all secular music be satanic. Far from it . Wishing you a nice day. Kathleen

Are you kidding? "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" is pure evil :smilingimp:. Seriously though, if God doesn't want you listening to it, he'll let you know.

All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All things are lawful, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life].

The bigger question is his music’s influence on you. Where does your mind go? How do you feel emotionally? What does it stir up inside of you? That’s what the scripture is pointing to. It may be harmless for some but not so for you. And if that’s the case you’re better off abstaining.

Yes. What Paul is saying is a continuation of what he told the Romans. He is removing the application of the written Mosaic Law. He's putting the scribes, lawyers, and mavens out of a job. He's saying we are not to delve closely into the written statutes to find all the boundaries and loopholes.

It's not whether an action is permitted by the written law, it's whether the action is beneficial, constructive, and edifying.

Paul raises the bar substantially. It's like asking an Olympic athlete in the weeks before the Games whether they can eat a Big Mac. The question is not "will it hurt me?" the question is: Will it make me faster? If that Big Mac doesn't positively contribute to better performance...then skip it.

That's where Paul sets our actions. If an action does not make me a better Christian, a more effective Christian, a more loving Christian...then I should skip it.

You’re correct and I answered as I did for a reason. The OP is attached to the music and where attachments are concerned we must come to grips with negative influences within ourselves. Telling someone they shouldn’t do it is rarely enough. They must understand why continuance is detrimental in spite of their enjoyment. That’s why the questions were included. Spiritual maturity eases the process of relinquishment. But there’s always sticky places that require more effort.

Hi OP... Easy answer is No, not ALL his songs are okay to listen to, and I say that as a lifelong fan of George Michael and his music. That said, not unlike many secular artists, George Michael does have a strong catalog of highly spiritual and emotionally touching songs that don't go into the fray of perversion and depravity. Listen Without Prejudice has a good 4 or 5 tracks that are powerful covers of spiritually grounded songs. Praying For Time, They Won't Go When I Go, Something To Save (About Saving your Marriage or Relationship), and lastly the DEEPLY MOVING "Mother's Pride" (Is about Multi-Generational Military Service between Father and Son, and the sacrifice of a Wife and Mother).

All this said, you have to go with your personal conviction, and not the convictions of others. I am deeply in love with much of George Michael's music and grew up listening to him before he was publicly outed or the various attempted scandals. In many ways, his Spiritual and emotionally powerful songs have drawn me closer to God and my moral humanity.
