Does Anyone Here Do Vertical Gardening?

I've been reading a book about vertical gardening and am preparing to try it beginning next spring. Does anyone have experience with it? It looks like something that can really work for me, since we have a small back yard and the weather here doesn't support regular garden layouts very well.
