• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

ERP crushed my OCD. It's like standing up against a big bully and staring him down until he gets scared. ERP is really the way to go. But, you have to believe in yourself that you'll get better or it will just spinning wheels going no where. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. PM me any time you need help.

if you would have asked me 1.5 years ago, I would have said no, never. But now I can confidently say 100% yes, it DOES get better. MUCH better. You have to find the right meds, routine, and getting in the mindset that you can do it. Praying for you. Hang in there.

Things have gotten better for me in the last year and a half. I can eat and sleep normally, I enjoy life again most of the time. The OCD isn't gone but I have no doubt that it will continue to improve, even if there are times where it seems to get worse for a while along the way

ERP is very effective in treating OCD, but only if practiced correctly. Also, there are many Psychiatrists out there who are willing to keep giving you drugs. A psychiatrist should focus on talking and resolving matters, and using drugs ONLY when necessary. If your psychiatrist is giving you 3 ssri drugs already, i would stop going to him and try to find a better psychiatrist who has had success using the ERP therapy for OCD and is not in favor of using many drugs. It is also possible, that one of these drugs is making you more sick, instead of making you feel better.

Fear is to be expected and I have had my share of it too.
The one thing to keep in mind my friend, is to understand that there is really nothing to fear but fear itself. Don't feel afraid about feeling afraid.
Feeling afraid is only natural. Acknowledge it, and move on. Occupy yourself with some activity you like. Doing some form exercise has proven to have a very positive effect on anxiety disorders. Cycling or jogging is simple yet fun, i think.

One more thing. Stop eating dairy products, or at least limit them to a minimum. Dairy products have been shown to worsen anxiety disorders like OCD. Try to eat more quality meat, like chicken breast, which has a lot of Tryptophan and will boost your serotonin levels naturally. Also, beef is a good choice. Avoid pork. And stop eating fish, since most are contaminated with mercury and other heavy metals, which will only make your symptoms worse. Also, avoid vegetables of the nightshade family, like potatoes and tomatoes.

Last, and most importantly, Mathew 26:41

"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."

We are here for you my friend.

I cannot get the thoughts to stop .i see a new therapist tomorrow.i think this has gone on too long .I may be too far gone. I feel like I am going to lose to the thoughts. I had gotten better for 6 days and in the week since then I have been the worst I have ever been.I believe I have lost my faith and wonder if I ever had it.I pray but so far I just keep sinking. Thanks for listening .oh well I did try as hard as i could.I feel like something bad is going to happen.

That is normal my friend. I know it sucks. And no, your NOT too far gone. I remember having my thoughts, from the time I woke up until the time I went to bed. I would maybe get like 2 minute breaks throughout the day at best (at my lowest time) and I would cry almost all the time. I was a train wreck. And I thought if God isn't for me, there is no way I could ever withstand this. BUT it does get better. Are you staying busy? You need to find that "niche" that replaces these bad thoughts with whatever that niche is. Mine was work. I had tried to start my own design business, it was slow, I was depressed and before I knew it, intrusive thoughts and depression sank in rather quickly. It wasn't until I landed some heavy freelance work that I found relief in my symptoms. And then when I shut down my business and started a new job, it helped tremendously. This is my scenario, yours may (will) be different. My whole point is, there is relief. You WILL get better. Trust me. Hang in there.

ERP is at your own pace. I learned it fom Mitzi not a therapist. But the tdoc that I see now says all the right things like blow it up get mad at it and just ignore it. But it was gracealone that helped me see how to truly use it. Maybe it's my turn to help you. Because I know you have it in you and I will never force you to do something you don't want to.
