• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

does anyone agree with this logic?

While I do agree that God see's all time equally, God also understands that you only see the present. And what he tells you in scripture always applies to the present situation.

This logic seems like an extremely poor "anti-dating" arguement from a purity cultist who wants to add 32,000 pages of laws regarding relationships to the bible.

If we want to carry that logic to completion then one could claim that it is perfectly acceptable to have sex with someone as much as you want as long as they end up being the person you marry. That is where this ends up carried to its logical end.

That is not the case. If I would have had sex with my wife prior to our marriage it would have been the same sin as having sex with anyone else prior to being married.

Myself, I think that's a rather feeble way of trying to argue against dating. Trouble is, the point of dating is to decide whether this person is someone you'd want to spend your whole life with, so to me, dating is important.

But there's a certain contingency of people who seem to feel threatened by this, and I think that is the real motive behind 'if you date you're cheating on your future spouse'. The 'I can only marry a woman who is a virgin' type (although I'm sure there are women who feel the same about their future husband). Personally, I worry about people who can't stand the idea of their spouse ever having been in an intimate relationship (whatever that level of intimacy may involve) with another person. It hints at insecurity and possessiveness.

Right, I'm going to get off of the soapbox, now, otherwise you lot'll get fed up of me. I could go on about this one at length, to be honest.

The thing that bothers me is that in the church this purity cult is simpily gaining too much in terms of their voice. And the purity cult is getting insanely restrictive on relationships. It almost seems as if they are trying to close off all normal relationships in which people find suitable partners to marry in the name of maintaining "purity".

This can lead to nothing good. Christianity is slowly becomming less about Christ's grace and a renewed life and more about sexual restrictions to the point of madness.

God arise and save your church from itself. Amen

A pastor i was listening to says that God sees all time, past fpresewnt and future equally, therefore he sees you as both married and single. So therefore anytime you date a person you don't marry you're cheating on your future spouse.

See, this is why I think that crazy people shouldn't be pastors. Why would God set someone (set EVERYONE) up for failure like that? The purity cult is getting more and more out of touch with reality, AND with God's law (both the letter than the spirit). The purity cult's law is not God's law. So yes, the pastor pulled this one COMPLETELY out of his rear.

No, that's not good logic. One can argue that having sex outside of marriage can perhaps be thought of as a type of cheating on your future spouse (presuming you eventually get married), but it wouldn't be based on the fact that God is outside of time.

Further, this is existentially useless, because then how are we supposed to live? Is he suggesting arranged marriages?

No, I don't agree with this logic at all!

Life is a journey, not a destination. To get to where we're eventually supposed to get in life (careers, housing, best friends weeded out, dating to having a spouse, etc.), we have to grow through experiences, learning, and finding things out.

I've found out new things about myself with everyone I've dated. I've had preconceived notions about things I'm looking for in a partner, to have that changed when I'm with someone and finding out a new way to look at things. Past relationships have made me stronger in relationships for my current one, if this makes sense.

Cheating would be something that one would have to consciously do.
