For those interested in how scripture is used in the Church I recommend reading Dei Verbum
DOGMATIC CONSTITUTION
ON DIVINE REVELATION
DEI VERBUM
SOLEMNLY PROMULGATED
BY HIS HOLINESS
POPE PAUL VI
ON NOVEMBER 18, 1965

And I offer a few sections as starters for the thread.

1. Hearing the word of God with reverence and proclaiming it with faith, the sacred synod takes its direction from these words of St. John: "We announce to you the eternal life which dwelt with the Father and was made visible to us. What we have seen and heard we announce to you, so that you may have fellowship with us and our common fellowship be with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ" (1 John 1:2-3). Therefore, following in the footsteps of the Council of Trent and of the First Vatican Council, this present council wishes to set forth authentic doctrine on divine revelation and how it is handed on, so that by hearing the message of salvation the whole world may believe, by believing it may hope, and by hoping it may love.

CHAPTER I
REVELATION ITSELF

2. In His goodness and wisdom God chose to reveal Himself and to make known to us the hidden purpose of His will (see Eph. 1:9) by which through Christ, the Word made flesh, man might in the Holy Spirit have access to the Father and come to share in the divine nature (see Eph. 2:18; 2 Peter 1:4). Through this revelation, therefore, the invisible God (see Col. 1;15, 1 Tim. 1:17) out of the abundance of His love speaks to men as friends (see Ex. 33:11; John 15:14-15) and lives among them (see Bar. 3:38), so that He may invite and take them into fellowship with Himself. This plan of revelation is realized by deeds and words having an inner unity: the deeds wrought by God in the history of salvation manifest and confirm the teaching and realities signified by the words, while the words proclaim the deeds and clarify the mystery contained in them. By this revelation then, the deepest truth about God and the salvation of man shines out for our sake in Christ, who is both the mediator and the fullness of all revelation. (2)

CHAPTER III
SACRED SCRIPTURE, ITS DIVINE INSPIRATION AND INTERPRETATION

11. Those divinely revealed realities which are contained and presented in Sacred Scripture have been committed to writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. For holy mother Church, relying on the belief of the Apostles (see John 20:31; 2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:19-20, 3:15-16), holds that the books of both the Old and New Testaments in their entirety, with all their parts, are sacred and canonical because written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, they have God as their author and have been handed on as such to the Church herself.(1) In composing the sacred books, God chose men and while employed by Him (2) they made use of their powers and abilities, so that with Him acting in them and through them, (3) they, as true authors, consigned to writing everything and only those things which He wanted. (4)

Therefore, since everything asserted by the inspired authors or sacred writers must be held to be asserted by the Holy Spirit, it follows that the books of Scripture must be acknowledged as teaching solidly, faithfully and without error that truth which God wanted put into sacred writings (5) for the sake of salvation. Therefore "all Scripture is divinely inspired and has its use for teaching the truth and refuting error, for reformation of manners and discipline in right living, so that the man who belongs to God may be efficient and equipped for good work of every kind" (2 Tim. 3:16-17, Greek text).

I hope you will visit the link I gave and read the document for yourself, it is not too long. Print it out and take your time. Whatever you do, please do not quote some very short passage from the document and treat it as if it were a definitive and complete statement of the doctrine of Scripture.

Bibliology! Wonderful!

Of the text books available on the subject, perhaps the most concise and complete is “Foundations of Pentecostal Theology by Van Cleaf and McDuff.

another is WILLIAM W. MENZIES & STANLEY M. HORTON’s work on Bible Doctrines.

The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative, rule of faith and conduct

1 Thess. 2:13; For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed itnot as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe

2 Tim. 3:15–17; and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Pet. 1:21 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

All very interesting for those who subscribe to a sixty-six-book canon. Not quite as interesting for those who do not, such as me. I subscribe to a seventy-three-book canon. It is the one that the North African councils decided in the late fourth century AD. Its canon list is contained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, quoted below:
CCC 120 It was by the apostolic Tradition that the Church discerned which writings are to be included in the list of the sacred books. This complete list is called the canon of Scripture. It includes 46 books for the Old Testament (45 if we count Jeremiah and Lamentations as one) and 27 for the New.
The Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra and Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, the Song of Songs, the Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach (Ecclesiasticus), Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Baruch, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zachariah and Malachi.
The New Testament: the Gospels according to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters of St. Paul to the Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, the Letter to the Hebrews, the Letters of James, 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2 and 3 John, and Jude, and Revelation (the Apocalypse).

For those interested in how scripture is used in the Church I recommend reading Dei Verbum
I recommend reading the Bible
Mark 7:7-13
Acts 17:11
2 Time 3:16
2 Pet 1:19-21
1. Hearing the word of God with reverence and proclaiming it with faith,
Amen
11. Those divinely revealed realities which are contained and presented in Sacred Scripture have been committed to writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
the books of both the Old and New Testaments in their entirety, with all their parts, are sacred and canonical because written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, they have God as their author
Amen again.

So say we all.

Amen again.
You posted the above in reply to the quote below. Are you sure that the amen is correctly attributed to the canonical books that Dei Verbum defines? The canonical books mentioned are these:

So say we all.
I do not think that is so, because what Dei Verbum asserts it asserts concerning the entire canon of seventy-three books. The canonical books mentioned are these:

Do you say an amen to that?

Church, The Foursquare ; Van Cleave, Nathaniel M.; Duffield, Guy P.. Foundations of Pentecostal Theology (p. 36). The Foursquare Church. Kindle Edition.

The Bible is one book, but it is also many books written by at least 40 authors over a period of not less than 1,500 years. Many of the authors never met each other, yet the Bible’s unity and continuity is so apparent; it is easy to think of it as having just one author, God Himself. Of the 66 different books in the Bible, the authors of 55 are well identified by history and tradition. The 11 books whose authors are not known are Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel, 1 Kings and 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles and 2 Chronicles, Esther, Job and Hebrews. Some books, such as Genesis, Judges, 1 Kings and 2 Kings, and 1 Chronicles and 2 Chronicles, cover such long periods of history it is possible that they are collections of ancient records brought together and edited by one individual towards the end of the historical period described in the book.

As for the Canonization of the New Testament:

They applied four tests to the documents considered:
(1) Apostolicity: Was the book the product of an apostle or a close associate of an apostle?
(2) Universality: was the book widely accepted and used in the churches?
(3) Contents: Did the subject matter of the book appear to be on a plan with known Scripture?
(4) Inspiration: Did the book bear the special quality that speaks of divine inspiration?

The canons of the council of Carthage do not mention these "tests"

Canon 24. (Greek xxvii.)

But the Canonical Scriptures are as follows:

  • Job.
  • The Psalter.

  • Jeremiah.
  • Ezechiel.
  • Daniel.
  • Tobit.
  • Judith.
  • Esther.

  • Macchabees, ij. books.
    • The New Testament.
      • The Gospels, iv. books.
      • The Acts of the Apostles, j. book.
      • The Epistles of Paul, xiv.

Let this be sent to our brother and fellow bishop, Boniface, and to the other bishops of those parts, that they may confirm this canon, for these are the things which we have received from our fathers to be read in church.

Good day, XOA

Very interesting document produced by the Roman Catholic Church.... Their members must find it useful.

Also their Catechism does contain the official teaching of their denomination, not that those teaching useful for every body, but again for their own members they are.

As to their Cannon I have no real issue that they have established one for their members, I do believe they have the authority to do so. Clearly so do their members because their members believe what they say IMHO they do so in error, but non the less they do.

In Him,

Bill
