Webster's Dictionary Definition of "Theocracy":
Government of a state by the immediate direction or administration of God; hence, the exercise of political authority by priests as representing the Deity.
I agree with you candy. I wouldn't hesitate to vote yes, bring it on, if it was this type of theocracy we were voting on. Candy said:When we get to heaven, we will live again under the direct government of God...a Theocracy.
I do beg your pardon.Sopharos said:Like I said, daydreaming =/= reality, the above dictionary definition is daydreaming, Dictionary.com's definition is reality:
the·oc·ra·cy ( P ) Pronunciation Key (th-kr-s)
n. pl. the·oc·ra·cies
1. A government ruled by or subject to religious authority.
2. A state so governed.
This means clerics, religious leaders, etc.
Amounts to a dictatorship.
Cool - Your choice. And by the way your personal definition of what you deem to be daydreaming and reality is duly noted and your personal definition of such is thus respected. I did not come to you with sarcasm, and I would ask that you kindly do the same to Christians here who views may be different to yours.Sopharos said:Daydreaming =/= reality.
You wanna live in a Christian Theocracy? Fine,. But I'm not coming with you.
I think it would, at first - but the temptation to first go after the cults, as bead for people would be hard to resist (I know it would for merepentandbelieve said:Does "American Christian Theocracy" allow for freedom of religion???
How would you be able to tell the difference between a divinely guided government and a government that claimed to be divinely guided? That's the problem - humans can lie. Almost all dictators, kings, emperors, and despots have claimed to have God on their side.Lotuspetal_uk said:Amen. I may have mis-interpreted the first post but I took the term theocracy to be a divinely guided government i.e. as in the 1000 yr reign of Messiah. As opposed to a denominational mis-interpretation of G-d's Laws - we'd get it straight from the source so to speak and so it would not be unfair, cruel, nor burdensome.

I agree with you - humans can lie. One would have to test the motives of those who get into power. But since this would be difficult, the only theocracy (divinely guided as per my earlier post) I'd be happy with would only be during the 1000 yr reign of the Messiah.Nathan David said:How would you be able to tell the difference between a divinely guided government and a government that claimed to be divinely guided? Again, your personal opinion is duly noted. Simple as that.Sopharos said:Oh please, just look at Iran as a case study. Okay, it was based on Islam, not Christianity - but the basic model of "theocracy" in the real world stands.
I don't dwell in daydreams. It's a Dictatorship of the Clerics. Simple is that.

Nexus, I am not referring to that....Nexus` said:It's not opinion, it's fact. Iran is a theocracy that is run by extremist clerics.

To address your post though, are we referring to any theocracy or as the OP post referred to - a Christian one?
And what did I say relating to man-run "theocracies"? What distinction did I make relating to what some Christians refer to as a 'divine' theocracy?
