Do you tithe?

If the tithe is already "the Lord’s” then why should we expect to be rewarding for returning to Him what He already owns? “Giving to get” seems to be the nasty debris of the prosperity movement. Maybe God will reward us for sacrificial giving, but whether he does or doesn’t should not determine how much you give. Giving should come from a generous heart. It’s not a fiscal investment in which we expect financial return. It’s a gift or it isn’t giving.

Expecting God to reward us for giving Him what He already owns is like expecting the police to give us a plaque because we drive the speed limit.

"Do you want God to bless you on gross or net?"

My wife and I tithed faithfully for 7 years. We experienced some blessings and we also experienced time of great need. At times we would even have to ask our parents for money. As a banker I am very frugal and do a great job of managing our money. One year we even skipped our family vacation to buy school clothes. We went to times of need, but kept tithing anyway. We eventually had to ask for help. Now there were also times of blessings, mainly coming from promotions, bonuses and raises at work.

Some time back we concluded we weren't to tithe as the American preachers so burden the church. We were a little concerned at first as we have been under such doctrine for 30+ years.

Naturally our finances are better and we haven't noticed any diffference in our blessing. In fact, this last month the owner of the bank I work gave me a 2003 Chevy truck, fully loaded with leather seats. A little reward for all the work I do. Now that is a blessing upon our household because a truck like this with gas, insurance and payment would run about $750 a month.

another faulty logic. same type of argument as Abraham did not tithe US dollars so we don't have to tithe.

What I find as faulty logic is the way that some people say that , since it is recorded once that Abraham tithed , that is somehow a command for all people for all time to tithe all income . It is not recorded that Abraham tithed because of any command - written or otherwise . Nor is it recorded that anyone should use what he did as an example for them .
