  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can really remember the Hymn He Lives for some reason. gg

Y'know, I'd never heard that until about a year ago when our pastor's father died. His funeral was attended by many of his peers (he was 80+) and the church was packed to the rafters. And they sang that hymn! Apparently he was well known for playing hymns on his harmonica on the bus to and from work every day and that was his favourite. Oh, how that building rang to the sound of all those lovely Baptist men singing it out with gusto! I shall never forget it.

Well, I've been having a wonderful "I remember when..." (like we needed any encouragement!). I joined a forum for Buddy Holly fans which I am proud to call myself. (No not a forum - a fan!)

Well I put this siggy on my posts and quickly found myself the toast of the board! My siggy? "I saw him LIVE!!"

So few people that did see him live (well, in the UK, anyway) are either lapsed fans or don't remember! Or maybe they just haven't joined the forum! So I've been having a wonderful time recalling that terrific evening when I saw him at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

And I started rooting out all the stuff I've kept for the past 48 years and found I have an amazing collection of newspaper cuttings,, articles and pictures of the time. And I still have the programme and the tickets from that concert.

"Oh Boy", do I remember when...!

Is this how it goes?:
He lives, He lives,
Christ Jesus lives today..
He walks with me and He talks with me
Along life’s narrow way…..

If so...I still sing it in my heart...I learned this one in the Baptist Church too...:)

As the season approaches I am remembering Thanksgivings and Christmases years back.

I think I cherish most the memory of when my older kids were in grade school in the early seventies and our youngest was just a baby girl three months old. She wore the same Santa Suit the other two had worn. You remember those stretchy outfits...this one was red and white. I am tickled as I remember how she smiled most of the time. They are so cute and responsive at three months. And that year we made several wooden ornaments to hang on the tree. I designed them, my husband cut them out of wood, and we all painted them. Also made a tissue paper bouquet (tissue paper flower making was my hobby then) poinsettas in tissue paper(now that was work) and a huge gingerbread boy which we didn't eat, but I hung on the wall with a tin foil background.

Ah, memories!

I didn't remember Holly until I saw the movie with Gary Busby some years ago. I do remember LaBamba though.

And birdfriend:

I remember a Thanksgiving holiday when we all went to a friend's house to watch "It's a Wonderful Life." What was different was that we didn't have videos then and it wasn't being shown on t.v. We saw it on a screen and it was shown on a Bell and Howell projector. That holiday was so special. Now I watch it every Christmas.
