To me prayer is just having a conversation with God.....
Yes, there are those times when you have a prayer session (when you spend time in prayer by yourself or with others), but I really just like talking to God when I'm at work or when I'm walking along the road. To me that's prayer......
When I'm in a "prayer session" situation, I tend to wait until I believe the Holy Spirit moves me to pray about something - even if I'm not sure how. Until then, my prayer runs along the lines of "I'm here God, what do we talk about".
What "does my head in" is those sessions when your praying with others and as soon as you "start", they're off..... Praying about all sorts of things with, in most cases, no time for a bit of silence or time to listen......arrrgh!! I also find that they tend to be list prayers for Uncle Jack's broken arm or Auntie Mary's dog.
I much prefer to wait on the LORD, and enter into a conversation with Him, rather than telling Him all your woes. It would be nice sometimes if people stopped and prayed - "How are you today, God?" You might be surprised at some of the answers you get..... like, "Well, my children aren't obeying me today, and that hurts"
A thought for you - just examine how many prayers you make asking God for things rather than blessing Him or praising Him. It's seeking the hand of God rather than seeking His face, and I know God wants us to seek His face rather than His hand. To seek him out for who He is and not just what He can do for us. It's all about relationship - loving someone for who they are rather than what you can get out of them. Even when we pray "Lord, move our heart to witness to others" - it's still a prayer asking God to do something.... and I'm as guilty as anyone.....
Bless you.....
