  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Love pie.

My grandmother made some fine apple and peach pies. Her sister (my great aunt) made wonderful pumpkin pies. Their mom made all kinds of fruit pies. She put some fancy artwork on the top crust. She also made fantastic pecan pies, and complained loudly when she saw one made with corn syrup. She used sorghum molasses.

Now my son makes the best pumpkin pies ever.

I love pie.
French silk is always a good choice.
Apple with French crumble topping is a great comfort food
Lemon can be nice.

 Apple is delicious. My dad pairs it with cheddar.

Homemade pie is the best. Made with love. <3

Sweet potato pie is my favorite

I have always wanted to try making that from scratch. I've only had store versions of sweet potato pie.

I've made so many over the years---Made a peach one that I did not have enough peaches for it, so I had 2 cans of tropical fruit containing papaya, and pineapple and I threw those in for volume---all you could taste was peach! Everybody raved it was the best peach pie ever and couldn't' believe what was in it. My husband is a pie-aholic, providing it is homemade, but his favorite is still apple--any way I can come up with it is fine. Toss up between apple and pecan, actually. I do love lemon. For this one elderly gent who couldn't take the crust and meringue I used to make just the filling--he loved it with Cool Whip--couldn't handle dairy too well either. Strawberry rhubarb is another hubby favorite.
Of you like oranges, try using fresh and frozen orange juice concentrate instead of lemons. Made a citrus one with lemon, orange and tangerine, and pink grapefruit juice--very good, too. I had been saving small amounts of left over juices in the freezer, kept a container that I just kept adding in whatever I had just a little left over of till I finally had enough and thawed it out. One year I came up with walnut, cranberry and apple with a corn syrup filling like a pecan for Christmas---really good.

Our youngest daughter emailed a recipe for a "Montgomery Pie" from Montgomery, Alabama. (Montgomery is my wife's maiden name)

I found another one with the same name from Pennsylvania - a variant of Shoofly pie.

I like pumpkin pie. That's the one I usually make.

Buttermilk pie is pretty good too. I rarely think to make it. It's easy and has a great flavor and consistency.

I also love lemon meringue pie, and even better, key lime pie. But those are a bit more tedious to make.
