But being perfect isn't mandatory (or possible)
possible:
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
Hebrews 10:14, For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
1 John 5:18, We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
1 John 3:8-9, He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1 John 2:17, 1 John 3:6, And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever....Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
mandatory:
Matthew 13:41-42, The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity: And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:49-50, So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 7:23, And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 5:29-30, And if thy right eye causeth thee to sin, pluck it out and cast it from thee: for it is profitable that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand causeth thee to sin, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
The last of these passages is of course hyperbole; or exaggeration to make a point: Jesus is not saying to literally pluck out your eye or cut off your hand; he is telling us to deal with sin using drastic measures: if the most important thing in the world to you is causing you to sin, it is better for you to put that in the garbage than for you to continue to sin because of it and end up being cast into hell. This goes to show that sin will put a man in hell. It must be dealt with at the Cross. 1 John 1:7 says, But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
