  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wonder if Christ will be recognized by many when He returns. What form will He take? If the Lamb of God comes as the Lion of Judah will we know that it is Him? If He comes in the form of a homeless man, a woman, a youth or an uneducated person will we know Him? Can we hear God's voice through someone we have been recently introduced as well as someone as familiar as a family member?

When the Spirit of God convicts us of sin, do we consider it condemnation and refuse it? Do we confuse guilt with shame, conviction with condemnation? Do we confuse love with comfort or complacency?

Do we worship the word of God or the God of the word? Do we know Him or know about Him?

Do we limit God by attributing manifestations of God's power and His glory to the evil one or to Charlatans? Does fear of man demand that God remain within the boundaries of our religious history? Will we allow God to do a NEW thing and still know it is Him? Will we have a form of Godliness and deny His power to save, deliver, heal and to love? Do we test the spirits with a man made standard?

John 17 brings me great comfort because I know that Jesus promised that he would keep all those who were entrusted to Him by the Father. He prayed that we would be kept from the evil one. That we would be sanctified with the truth. Let us be free to grow in our relationship with God, trusting that God is able to keep us until the day of redemption.

.

The bible is pretty clear on what Christ will look like when He returns..

Revelation 1

10 It was the Lord’s Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast. 11 It said, “Write in a book everything you see, and send it to the seven churches in the cities of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”

12 When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. 13 And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. 14 His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. 15 His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. 16 He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance.

17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.

I am not sure why you would think He would return looking like a mere human being or why you would pick the homeless or uneducated like that?

Maybe you are thinking of the passage where He says to take care of the 'least of these?' Jesus doesn't say though He will returned looking like one of us just to see if we know its Him or not. Everyone will know..even nonbelievers will know its Him.

Philippians 2:9-11

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Perhaps my OP was poorly written. What I intended to convey was that Christ has and does appear in many forms. The Kingdom of God is at hand. The idea of my post was to merely to pose the question as to whether we would recognize the King and the Kingdom of Heaven when we encountered it or would our theology would get in the way.

Oh ok...my fault actually...sometimes I take things too literally missing the over all message of a post (and here I go again...sorry...its my thing I guess :o) The bible never says Jesus appear in different forms though...He does however work through others and the passage of the least of these is an excellent one on that.

Matthew 25:40
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

I am sure you know that parable.

But you are right...and make a good point in our theologies getting in the way of experiences Him fully. The church a person attends can have a huge influence on that...on what we are open or closed too even if its in the bible! Which is really sad and truly limits a Christian in fully experiences God. I am just now realizing alot of this myself and deeply distressed over it...but its something I plan on correcting as soon as possible. :)

God bless

Consider yourself blessed that the Holy Spirit is bringing you closer to Him. You seek Him and therefore you find Him. God is faithful to lead those that love Him into all truth. When people are decieved, they really believe the deception. The wisdom of man is not capable of unmasking the devil's deception. It takes the revelation of God to unveil the truth. Thank God that he loves us and has given us everything we need to lead us into all truth; His word, His Son and His Holy Spirit.
