  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you have any....

Please share some little secret gem's that you think others would love to see... not so much favorites but movies that many people may not know about or may assume aren't as good as they really are!

I love renting movies that I'm not sure of and then when they end up surprising me with such delight... I just can't wait to tell everyone to go rent it!!!

I'd recommend Me and You and Everyone You Know. Best film I saw last year.

Also The Bicycle Thief. When people say that they don't make movies like they used to, this is the type of movie they mean.

And Brick. It just came out on DVD. It's a film noir set in a high school. Fans of the true film noirs will be probably appreciate it better.

There's also this Iranian film called The Circle. It's kinda hard to find, but it's a great film. Highly recommended.

And In The Mood for Love. It's very lyrical and poetic, but very simple. Check out the cinematography by Christopher Doyle. He's gotta be the best at the moment. He also worked on Hero and The Last Life In The Universe.

Buying the Cow- This movie is HILARIOUS. I had never seen it or even heard of it until I started dating my hubby. He went on and on and on about it... I figured it couldn't be that good if it wasn't very popular- It was.

I *think* it might be Rated R... if I remember correctly you see a nude [male] bum :)

'What’s Up Tiger Lily?' Woody Allen took a so so Japanese Action movie and asks himself why didn’t this film make it? So he changed the plot, threw out the script and re-dubbed it. The movie stayed as shot but now the plot line is about someone stealing an egg salad recipe. You can’t stop the laughter.

This British film is a sleeper I think about fifteen or twenty years old. I really enjoyed watching it on t.v. a few years ago. I wanted to see it again so searched for my own DVD or VHS. Copies are rare and hard to find; but I finally got a copy which became defective after a couple viewings.

Based on the book by J.L. Carr A Month in the Country [a worthwhile read] stars a very young Colin Firth as an artist commissioned by the deceased benefactor(in the will) of a small Anglican church in England to restore a white washed wall mural to it's original painting.

Firth's character is a traumatized veteran of the Great War (W.W.I) who is afflicted with stuttering and frightening dreams. Spending the same month in the country is another traumatized war veteran (Kenneth Braughan) who has been commissioned to search for ancestral remains buried in an unmarked grave outside the church cemetery. Nastasha Richardson plays the sensitive wife of the Vicar there.

The beauty of the story unfolds in symbolic and meaningful ways as all come to a sort of redemption and restoration together. And, at heart, it is a story with a Christian theme.

Mystery prevails and lures the viewer. I especially appreciated the scene where the painting is finally uncovered.

I really liked the old B/W movie (from the fifties) The Treasure of the Sierra Madre starring Humphrey Bogart (who deserved an oscar but didn't win), Walter Huston, (who did get an oscar for his supporting role), and Tim Holt. This gem directed by John Huston (Walter's son) is about a search for gold. It is a story of greed and what it can do to people. Very well done and worth renting or buying or recording.
