  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ah yes, the ever growing question that has been seeping into my mind since I have been on this website. On the secular portions, I can understand their disagreements with what the Christians who get media attention say. However, take a walk over to the Christian Only section, and it's even worse with the Catholic v Protestant arguments. Now, onto the question at hand.

Do you hate Christians? If possible, please base your answer off of more than just Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell comments please. Please provide clarification if you do or do not, and also, this is about the topic at hand, not abortion, homosexuality and other morals. I would like to see where the secular world actually stands on this. By the way, I'm not a fundamentalist Christian, I'm a Spiritual one.

I decided to answer this before I read any other responses to the thread. No. I don't hate Christians in general. However, I've met some for whom I've developed an intense dislike. There are two Christians that I personally know where the dislike has crossed over to hatred. For the most part though, I find that my percentage of like or dislike for a person who is Christian is about the same as my like or dislike for people of other beliefs or no beliefs. People are people. Some are kind, some are hate-filled, some are smart, some ain't.

I don't hate Christians. I do find Christian theology ridiculous, even, were blasphemy possible, blasphemous.

Consider: God creates Adam, knowing, because God is omniscient, that he is going to sin. Because Adam sins, God condemns all of Adam's descendents to eternal suffering. Then, he wipes out everyone but one family of humans. Still not satisfied, he determines after some millenia, to come down as his own son by a human woman, and gets himself tortured and executed, so he can forgive us. Why couldn't he just forgive us right off the bat? That's what he expects from us, and we aren't even omnipotent.

And believing nonsense seems to have damaged the reasoning powers of many, if not most Christians. They are morally outraged at abortion, but find nothing wrong with bombing innocent civilians. Their, purported God-king tells them to pray in private, but they insist on public prayer.

I judge Christianity by its fruits, two thousand years of inquisitions, holy wars, and torture.

I would feel sorry for Christians, but that wouldn't do them any good.

Christianity Causes no more harm than any other religion. And I do not hate those who are Christians. What I hate is oppression. And unfortunately right now, Christian Ideals are the cause of much of the oppression I live with as an American. That is what causes me to dislike some people. But I have always found it hard to hate anyone.

I agree very much, with only one exception: it is not Christian ideals which are causing oppression, it is antichristian ideals, which often come out of the mouths (or driving the hands on the guns) of people who call themselves Christian.
