Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you find this song offensive?

A little off subject but is anyone offended by this song:

If you could love me as a wife
and for my wedding gift, your life
Should that be all I’ll ever need
or is there more I’m looking for?

and should I read between the lines
and look for blessings in disguise
To make me handsome, rich, and wise
Is that really what you want?

(Chorus)
I am a harlot I do confess
But I put you on just like a wedding dress
and I run down the aisle
I run down the aisle
I’m a prodigal with no way home
I put you on just like a ring of gold
and I run down the aisle to you

So could you love this b@st@rd child
Though I don’t trust you to provide
With one hand in a pot of gold
and with the other in your side

I am so easily satisfied
by the call of a lover so less wild
That I would take a little cash
Over your very flesh and blood
(Chorus)

Because money cannot buy
a husband’s jealous eye
When you have knowingly deceived his wife
(Chorus)

I LOVE THIS SONG!!
Those are amazing truthful lyrics, and I wish the secular world would get a good taste of it and actually listen and learn from what it says.
:D
Now, I'm getting confused - a song and two more posts? Which song are you talking about? LOL

The one you posted.
Though graphic it is truthful.
This world has turned graphic, so you have to target them in their own group, if that makes sense.

Ah, yes, I love the song. I had no idea what the controversy over it was so I set out to find it. When I first listened to it, I fell in love with the song because of the truth and I was "offended" the way it was meant to "offend." I love it so much. I heard Lost And Found do the cover of it in concert now :) Yay!

There were too many posts to quote from in this thread. I don't think this song is offensive, I really don't. I see it as what is happening in the world around me. I don't like what is happening, and I want to change it. This song and others like it point out what's wrong and what we, Christians, ignore everyday. Sometimes it takes a jolt or some song that is crude and "offensive" to wake us out of our slumber and make us want to do something. I strive to share my love of Jesus to all. Sometimes it's hard, especially in today's society, but I know I must do it anyway. To me, this song doesn't offend me. It tells me that I need to step up my game and try harder. Bring more people to Jesus. I don't want them to come to Christ through my music, I want them to come to Christ through me. I want to be an influence to someone. This song makes me realize that. It makes me think, it doesn't offend me.

P.S. This was in reference to the first song posted.

That's how I feel about it - how I find it "offensive" saying "Look!" and "Look what you need to do!"

Not so much that I find the song offensive, and it certainly doesn't reflect what's going on in *MY* life at the moment...but it doesn't fit into the criteria of "Christian Music". The reason it doesn't fit isn't because of the two words that may or may not be expletives, but because it doesn't reflect our Christian values. Christian music is uplifting and God oriented. This song is a commentary on society.

NacDan
Christian music is uplifting? Yes, unfortunately, it is. I've never liked most Christian music because I've found it to be, on the whole, shallow, excessively emotional, overly repetitive, and somewhat mindless. Good examples of this, I think, are "Shout to the Lord" and "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" (which it feels like I am - and when the world sees the light, they'll scream in horror, frankly, not dance for joy - read Revelation.)

Anyway, I think most mainstream Christian music is junk. I much prefer Johnny Cash's honest spirituality that comes across in so many of his songs and the questioning of bands like Creed to the sugary feelgoodness of contemporary Christian music. There are a few exceptions, to this, of course, but on the whole I believe it's true.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with me, think about this. Donald Miller said in his book, "Prayer and the Art of Volkswagen Maintenance", (and I'm paraphrasing) "I feel the same emotional high whether I'm singing "Amazing Grace" or "Sweet Home Alabama." When we sing, either in church or wherever else, is that feeling we get from simply singing, or from honest worship?

I believe the song is meant to be a bit offensive, and get attention. It is great to speak to the secular world, and perhaps tell in certain words what they like to close their eyes too. Now, I wouldn't go so far as to say this song could be played in a church service LOL... no, but listening privately would be fine since there is a truth there. To each his own, though! I prefer classical, and classical I shall stay...though I like a contemporary music now and then! At home!
