I have felt a stronger sense of peace over the past few weeks for reasons which are not completely clear to me.
The short answer is that my new church must be playing a significant role. Also, I am always looking for ways to improve, to bring my actions into greater alignment with what is morally and spiritually right.
But in the past few weeks, it feels like at least in part, the movement towards a sense of peace is requiring less "effort": it's not so much of a struggle but a gift, a blessing.
I've written about some of the struggles, the politics and the temptations accompanying my switch to a new church. But I do feel blessed by the church as well. I can see the immense effort being put forth by church staff, volunteers and members and in large part, it's the effort that counts. They are going out of their way to make me feel welcome and these efforts at community building is most welcome and likely reducing my stress level to a noticeable degree.
I am wondering if there are ways that I can bless this new church. I am feeling very sensitive and prickly given my previous issues and challenges with my previous church so I am taking my time. But, the church's blessing has been duly noticed and I certainly don't want to overlook that.
