Do you ever...?

Do you ever just write out pieces of a story as-yet-unformulated? I mean, sometimes I have these ideas for a really great scene in a story I haven't created yet. So I'll write down the scene and maybe the story never comes about.

Do you ever do that?

I do sometimes. When I have a scene in my head that's just begging to be written, I'll write it out and see if it goes anywhere. Usually, it doesn't, but it's fun to write them anyway.

I write scenes. Sometimes I collect them and string them together into a story. It works.

Likewise. You wouldn't seriously believe how much of this stuff I have lying round. Sometimes it takes years to blossom...

I did a count and found exactly 10 of those never finished thinking about stories still laying around.

Since I used to want to be a DM, I will draw the place of the scene out sometimes if I have an idea, and then if I ever get around to writing it into a story, I walk the characters through it as I would expect them to react to whatever I placed there. I seldom pre-set character reactions though, because you never really know if they would react like that.

Not so much stories. They are more of just random tangents and dicussions with myself about philosophical, idealistic, and emotional topics. And I have many of those. =P

All the time... I think its how a lot of development comes along even if it is months or years later

I do that with poems

write one stanza, and not even have a clue what Im writing about, and then perhaps a poem comes out, otherwise, just random pieces saved in notepad
