Why do baptist churches put Baptist on their signs? The same could be asked for almost every denomination we have. It is simple, it is advertisement. They are advertising to those who share their beliefs, saying "baptist people come here we are also baptist". ( I am only using baptist as an example, I am not trying to single them out). Denominations are only divisions. And frankly by looking at the statement of faith for this particular discussion board, nondenominational is in fact a denomination. I also do not belong to any denomination, nor could I ever. I feel if I were to join any denomination that I would be excluding my brothers and sisters in other denominations. The Body of Christ extends past the boundaries of race, nation, denomination. By reading and listening to God I have found my beliefs and they do not fit into any denomination. That said, I have found that the only important part is Christ and him crucified. My brothers and sisters come from a wide variety of backgrounds and beliefs, but the core is the same Christ and him crucified. Our job is not to promote our local churches or our denominations, but to show God's infinite love. And for the church to become whole and healthy so that we can make a serious impact on this world, then we need to come together. Put aside our differences and focus on the love of God that heals.
Sorry I might have got off suubject a little. My advice is to go where ever God leads you. It isn't about our personal preferences but God's plan and us finding comfort in our trust for him.
