I can beat that.
- 50,000 tons of wire (around 3,030,000 miles worth) has been used in making the slinky since 1945 to present. That’s about enough wire to go around the Earth 121 times at the equator.
I can beat that.
They found Gumby on Venus.
Perhaps but I singled out religion because it's the most obvious one that suffers from it, if parents stopped reinforcing religions as they do with Santa then belief in religion would die just as the belief in Santa dies, religions know this that's why their main target has always been children.Lots of things in life suffer from the Santa syndrome, if you stop reinforcing a belief then children will eventually stop believing it.
I'll tell you what, Bob:Perhaps but I singled out religion because it's the most obvious one that suffers from it, if parents stopped reinforcing religions as they do with Santa then belief in religion would die just as the belief in Santa dies, religions know this that's why their main target has always been children.
I'm not harping I'm just stating a fact, the truth is I don't care because it really doesn't effect me on this side of the pond,I'll tell you what, Bob:
Take your proposal to your atheistic buddies in the government (if there are any), and see if even they'll agree enough to support it.
If not, then don't harp on us about it.
In fact, I have to ask this question:
Do you even have any atheist friends who think like you do? and would also be willing to support your cause?
If not ... take your ranting elsewhere, please.
Not even your friends want to hear it.
So, what you are saying is that schools should all teach fundamentalaistic ideology as the truth. This is really quite a silly thought. If we stopped teaching kids anything they would cease believing. If we stopped teaching evolution the kids would stop believing in it. If we stopped teaching kids that cigarettes were bad for you kids would start smoking again.
Teaching is how we adults get our points across to our kids about right and wrong and whatever else we want kids to know. God understood this. That's why he told us to teach our kids about him from the moment we wake up to the time we go to bed. He knew how important teaching our kids is.
Religion has been among human beings for as far back as we can trace humanity. Man has always had a belief in God in some way or some fashion. It's one of those things that resides within the human soul. A need to believe that something exists beyond ourselves and our world.
And these adults pass this down to their children. Its not something that is ever going to,go,away. Even in the last days of this planet men will be worshipping the "beast".

Did they stop reinforcing Jesus at the same time they stopped reinforcing Santa? or did they continue to tell you that Jesus was real?

Actually, my parents always made it clear to us that we were never going to be forced to believe or attend church. I can remember quite well them explaining to us that it needed to be our decision.

How about Santa Science* and Santa Evolution?
* Santa Naturalism actually...
By all means. Let's get rid of every single bit of information about religion, and every single information about evolution. Better yet, let's get rid of all scientific knowledge. Take humanity back to the stone age.
I can guarantee you right now that people will discover science again. We will discover the laws of motion, and the Pythagoras theorem (even though it will be called something else). We will discover electricity, how to make alloys, we will develop flight, and we will once again get into space using rockets. We will split the atom, harness solar power and develop ways to examine the smallest particles in nature, just as we have today. And we will do all this in much the same way that we will today. Because it is based off the way the universe works.
And yes, we will develop religion again, but I can guarantee you this: it won't be Christianity.
and that is the difference between science and religion. Science is the real world, it's just waiting to be discovered. It's there for all to see. Religion is like writing a story. No one can write it except the author. Would we have The Lord of the Rings if someone other than J R R Tolkien had written it? Of course not. Religion, like art, is unique and can never be recreated. But the real world can be. I can go to the Eiffel Tower and when I look at it, it will be the same tower that you see. But religion isn't like that. Reality is the same for everyone, religion isn't. So how can it be true?

Will they market Thalidomide as a prenatal wonder drug again?I can guarantee you right now that people will discover science again.
I don't think I said that. At least I didn't mean to. I think you missed my point. So, what you are saying is that schools should all teach fundamentalaistic ideology as the truth.
What if you're wrong? What if there is a God? Can science really disprove God's existence?
Even when it comes to the natural world we live in, we don't have all the answers. We are always learning. Back when mankind thought the earth was flat, it was still round. Truth is truth, regardless of what you believe.
And I disagree that reality is the same for everyone. People can have very different ideas about what they think is real or not.
Truth on the other hand IS the same for everyone. Truth is truth, it doesn't matter if no one believes something. If it is the truth, nothing anyone says or does can change that.
Read your history. Religion is often the glue that holds societies together when their material world fails. People know they can rebuild their stuff over time, but are very protective of their religions.
