All religions suffer from the Santa syndrome, which is:
If you stop reinforcing a belief then children will eventually stop believing it.

I disagree. Yes, everyone needs to come to their own decision as to what they believe or don't believe, and not everyone comes to that point at the same age or in the same way.

When I was growing up, my parents talked about Jesus and Santa (at Christmas). I no longer believe in Santa, but I still believe Jesus is real. I needed to come to my own decision on these matters.

I grew up in secular schools and I had many friends who weren't Christian (still do). Many other Christians could say the same. I know that a lot of people believe we are all brainwashed and that we never question anything, quite the opposite is true.

I meet with a small group regularly as well, we discuss world issues and many different perspectives. We are always open to learning and exploring things. And pretty much every single Pastor could tell you that their congregation does not just sit there passively taking in everything they say as absolute truth. We are taught to be discerning.

Did they stop reinforcing Jesus at the same time they stopped reinforcing Santa? or did they continue to tell you that Jesus was real?

I'm sort of in between. Religions would eventually die off if everyone stopped spouting the dogma for long enough, but deism would live on I reckon.
I agree, some people would still need something to help them cope with life. [not to mention death]

I was not raised to be a Christian. I did not even know anything about Christianity until after my divorce when I was around 26 years old. Most of what I know I learned on my own from reading the Bible. I did not trust anyone anywhere to tell me what the Bible says.

It's not dogma, as a Christian parts of our brain function that does not function for non christians. There is evidence for that when they scan the brain. Without religion mankind would all die off. Non religious people have a reprobate brain, they have not advanced and developed a regenerated brain the way people do that learn how to function in a loving, caring religious community.

This is definitely one of the most darndest things I've ever heard a fundie say (especially the bits of the brain that work in Christians but not non-Christians - ROFL), and needs to go up on FSTDT, if anyone has a login and can do the honours...

They main point is that NON Christians have what the Bible calls a reprobate brain. Christians have a regenerated brain. This shows up on the brain scans. God did not create us to function independent of Him. That is why apart from God people perish and die. Only those who know God will know eternal life. Only those who are born again and a new Creation in Christ have a regenerated mind. Those who are not saved and not born again have a reprobate mind.

Do believers in religions other than the Christians have reprobate brains? how about the Muslims or Mormons? are they OK even if they have the wrong religions?

How about that crazy sect the Heaven's Gate which was an American UFO religious Millenarian group based in San Diego, California, founded in the early 1970s and led by Marshall Applewhite (1931–1997) and Bonnie Nettles (1927–1985).
On March 26, 1997, police discovered the bodies of 39 members of the group who had committed mass suicide in order to reach what they believed was an extra terrestrial spacecraft following Comet Hale–Bopp.
Did those crazies have reprobate brains?

Santa syndrome leads to atheism.

Atheists once believed in Santa and they found out that there was no Santa and their world was crushed and they're very upset about it. Extremely upset.

So now they're like "O mah gosh mayb God is like Santa! " And they're so mad because they really loved Santa and now to have the rug pulled under them, they are just really crushed by that.

I bring this up because have you ever noticed when you listen to atheists talk (God bless their sweet little hearts) They always say, "Yeah well what about Santa!?" And they're all sad about it.

So what happened is that atheists were someone who once believed in Santa (even though he was based off an actual historical figure) and are very upset about it, and they have never really outgrown their temper tantrum idiocy.

Pray for them.

Many grow up to be scientists, changing the object of their desires from Santa Claus to ... ahem ... more manly things.

Like SETI, LHC, and Tachyons.

The result is expensive machines that are now nothing but junk.

HOWEVER, due to their efforts, we now can enjoy their byproducts.

Slinkies, yo-yos, Gumby, Silly Putty, and who knows what all else?

That way, they appease the common people (or rather, their kids), and they can quietly junk their stuff without public uproar.

Scientific bribery.

We covered this logically. Children are taught their beliefs by adults that
have had time to critically examine their own beliefs and have determined
their beliefs system to have merit.

This is how society advances, by teaching children the wisdom of their leaders.
Here comes one now

  • 50,000 tons of wire (around 3,030,000 miles worth) has been used in making the slinky since 1945 to present. That’s about enough wire to go around the Earth 121 times at the equator.

  • In addition to its success as a toy, other uses for Silly Putty have been found. In the home, it can be used to remove substances such as dirt, lint, pet hair, or ink from various surfaces. The material's unique properties have found niche use in medical and scientific applications. Physical therapists use it for rehabilitative therapy of hand injuries.[21] A number of other brands (such as Power Putty and TheraPutty) alter the material's properties, offering different levels of resistance. The material is also used as a tool to help reduce stress, and exists in various viscosities based on the user's preference. Because of its adhesive characteristics, it was used by Apollo astronauts to secure their tools in zero-gravity.[22] Scale model building hobbyists use the putty as a masking medium when spray painting model assemblies. The Steward Observatory uses a Silly-Putty backed lap to grind astronomical telescope mirrors.
