According to the Word of God, we do not.... none of the scriptures listed below indicate that we choose our own steps. I'll let the Word speak for itself.
Jeremiah 10:23 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.
Proverbs 20:24 A man's steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?
Jeremiah 10:23 I know, O LORD, that a man's life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps.
I just don't see any "wiggle" room here for free will or my own decision-making.
