Do u have a drug problem..can u help???

My cousin in law, suffers from drug addiction bad. Everyone says that we are really close...and most of the time he encourages his children to spend time with me....and we have a good time. The only problem is his attitude:

1) He is frequently incarcerated just went back.
2)He always wants money and me to bail him out (its to the point whereas he will refuse visiting with me or talking to me if I dont adhere to his commands)....Im like whatever....I dont listen to him.

At this point: I dunno know if he is being genuine...if I should continue to visit him and be supportive...or is this a relationship that I have to cut off for life?

I dont know if this is just his addiction talking? Or if he sees me merely as a $$$$$ machine which really upsets me and makes me feel unsafe ...I dunno....Can someone with a substance abuse history help me......please..thanks.

I'm a former user, listen to me, don't ever just hand over cash. If you want to get him a gift , buy him something don't give him the receipt. If it's marijuana it will brush over in time. If it's something else, he needs a good therapist not just any therapist a good one. He needs to remember there was a time when he wasn't a user. Never turn anyone away, but never be foolish. Users have feelings, but no control, until they fight against it like cancer.

Wow: I really needed help and insight ...I feel so used right now....I didnt give him money...but when he kept asking I was livid...yeah i wont turn away fully...but i gotta set up boundaries ...thanks for the advice you all....

There are groups like al-anon or nar-anon for family members of addicted individuals. I'm wishing you & him the best. The best is just getting clean and staying that way it's a totally different mindset.
