  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do they or don't they still apply (the 10 Commandments)?

If I am under grace God is not going to judge me according to the Law(any of the 613, including the first 10). As a believer the Holy Spirit dwells in me telling me the right way to live. It will not lead me into sin. What leads me into sin is my rebellion. And the law was made for sinners. It was a way for God to show people how they are completely inadequate to fulfill God's standards, without His help. Galatians 2 talks about how Paul confronted Peter for telling the gentiles to follow Jewish practices(essentially the Law) but Paul was like "No way, we are not justified by the law, but are dead through it. Because of that, I crucify my flesh that it might die, and I might live by Christ living in me." (my paraphrase :p)

Paul was saying that if we are living by the law, then we will be dead, because that is the end for all those follow it. But when we die to ourselves, and let Christ live in us, then we live, because He was able to completely fulfill the entire law. So we are really justified by HIS works and deeds, and nothing that we can do. Now that is not to say that we are to be lazy and sinful in our grace. As I mentioned above, the HS will discern to us the right way to live.
