Yes those movies are very controversial making people extremely angry. It seems silly to me though because I don't think any of those movies say that all Italians are in the mafia.selune said:

Yeah, I'm a mixed background and could get upset at the stereotypes for many ethnicities if I so desired...Eh, what's the big deal? They're Sphyrna (that's genus for sharks) not Italians. Yes, some Italians were/are mafioso. So were others. Maybe they should have had some underwater accent, that would be more appropriate I suppose *that was sarcasm*

Well, I went and saw it yesterday, and I would advise people against watching it, because it just wasn't funny.

Sorry, can't help you, I'm still busy boycotting George Lucas for his attacks and racial stereotypes in Star Wars I of Jamacians, Chinese, Royal Democracies (once I figure out what that is) and how sith are always black....oh yeah, make the villian a black guy. Now I know that it appears the money is still rolling in for Lucas but I know that deep down he is hurting. Once this breaks through and he makes a tearful public apology, then I will have the time to dedicate to Sharkstale.

Wow. I never saw this coming. Unbelievable. This kind of attitude annoys me severly so I'm doing my best here to be nice.
The movie stereotypes mobsters not Italians. Every Italian fish in the movie isn't bad. But the bad ones aren't just Italians they are mobsters. You've missed the point. They aren't bad because they are Italian, but because they are in the mob. Thats a fact of life. Having a movie with mob characters in it that act as they do in real life isn't stereotyping the whole group. Thats silly. The Godfather, for example, isn't about those murderous and evil Italians. Its about specifically ONE group within the culture that are muderers and in no way relates back to the group as a whole. Frankly thinking that Shark Tale does this is extremely over sensitive and overly dramatic.
Also lets remember that this is a movie about fish. It isn't like the Godfather because these are specifically fish and the murdering evil fish are Sharks. Sharks are predators. So it makes perfect sense to me that they would relate Sharks with mobsters. The comparison is specifically with a Mobsters and not all Italians. And all mobsters aren't even italian.
Lenny in the movie is the hero and he's Italian. He's a loveable shark who doesn't want to hurt anyone. So the movie is clearly not saying that all Italians are evil murderers and the notion that it is saying this is extremely ridiculous.

We should stop boycotting little things and look at the big picture. Boycott life. After all, it's full of offensive things!

Is we should protest Shark Tale cause it has Italians as mobsters, does that also mean we have to protest Godfather 1-3, Casino, the many movies that came out in the 60's and early 70's, and of course, the great parody movie, Mafia!
