Thats odd considering that Daniel was not written in Greek. What transaltion are you using?

Well it's not the LXX which has aionios. The Hebrew word is 'olam which I think means "world" or - presumably in this context - "for the age of a world". When used to indicate a duration it's almost an exact cognate for aion.

Tell me which translation your using. The word "aiodios" is also used to describe God, but is use to describe judgement and life.

Daniel 12:2
And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting (aiodios) life, Some to shame and everlasting (aiodios) contempt.

So its simply if you believe that word has a limt, when it does mean age-during. If you believe another Greek or Hebrew word means "eternal" and aiodios does not, please point out which words your using as a basis for that belief.

The very word "fundamental" would imply that we stick to the basics. However, there are false fundies out there who don't believe all of scripture. A handful will tell you the bible is just one guide to God among man, and Jesus is not the only way while claiming a personal relationship with the God of the bible.

You must have a foundation for your beliefs, aside from whats in your mind. A persons mind is subject to change, and your view of God right along with it. The bible says, God does NOT change. It's a false image of god that all of us carry at some point that does.

Dan~~~>places the foundation for beliefs in what the bible says, not in his own personal opinions

I am using the KJV for greek and hebrew words study concerning the word in question.

Daniel 12:2 is the Hebrew word "Olam" not "aiodios" which is greek.

This is how olam was translated in the KJV;

ever 272 times, everlasting 63 times, old 22 times, perpetual 22 times, evermore 15 times,
never 13 times , time 6 times, ancient 5 times, world 4 times, always 3 times, alway 2 times, long 2 times,
more 2 times, never + 0408 2 times, misc 6;

Now if they had a bent towards eternal hellfire which way do you think they would have used it?

sighhh yes of course nonbelievers go to hell...Jesus is the only way to the Father...who is in heaven...but if you want to continue to believe that you can choose not to follow God then I guess your choice is hell...nobody's fault but yours...

This is getting so boring...I guess you put out a thread enough times you will get what you want...but it is still the same...NO!!!! NONBELIEVERS GO TO HELL!!!!

oh dear......I'm sorry its a bit of a drag.......yet another display of fundamentalist compassion thats overwhelming in its abundance......'nonbelievers', 'sinners', it seems very rare that those who are suposed to endure unspeakable and barbaric torment in this supposed 'hell' are actually referred to as 'human beings' or people, i wonder why....? Is it easier for fundamentalists to just bunch them in with a tag name so it doesnt feel as personal or uncomfortable for them when they bang on about eternal punishment for them....?
'Feel the love'........:sigh:

What you who do not understand about us Universalists is that most of us believed for years exactly as you do. But at some point in our walk the Father saw fit to reveal this wonderful truth to us. If the rest were as I was it was not something we embraced immediately. Having been preprogrammed to wrongly believe in an eternal hell as part of the wonderful truths we maintained as gospel it was not a doctrine we just let go of willy nilly. It took years for my wonderful Lord to reveal this truth. But when He did it was so overwhelmingly freeing and made our Lord so much more loving and grand.

He is a Father that wanted us to know the difference between right and wrong. Wanted to reveal to us His wonderful love and mercy. Good and evil was needed to do that well.

What Father would not desire to redeem His creation? Does it seem a reasonable thing to you that if you had the power, to leave your own fallen children in that pitiful state for an eternity with no way out if you had the wherewithall to change the situation? Sounds like a no brainer to me. Unless of course you are a vindinctive taskmaster that just wants to be right or needs revenge.

A nice post, what was it that happened that made u become a universalist if you dont mind me asking?

I LOVE THIS! Olam is ever or never, ancient or always, old or world, good grief... is it ever translated as beef stew?
