  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's another question that probably everyone knows the answer to but me. :sigh: Do Messianic Jews and/or Gentiles take Communion? I assume there will be some variance in answers b/c it seems that no one believes exactly like anyone else. But I'm interested in what the majority tend to believe on this topic within this segment of the saved (for lack of a better word, since not everyone here calls themselves 'Christian', either! ;) ).

TIA,
Jill

P.S.One day, if I keep asking questions, I'll have enough "blessings" so I can create an automatic signature!

There have been some good threads here discussing communion, yes/no/when/how/why? If you do a search of this forum, I'm sure some will come up for you!

Shalom :pink:

oops -- PS -- DH and my fam and I hadn't taken "communion" in three years until recently. We may, or may not continue in that practice, dunno at this point -- but we believe that the meal Yeshua shared with His followers was a Pesach (Passover) meal, and we do celebrate the feast and remember Him during the Haggadah (telling) of the Passover meal.

Don't worry about asking questions -- and go easy on yourself, as you don't have to "catch up" to the "rest of us". LOL -- I've been learning for about 5 years and am nowhere near most of the people here in learning, so be confident that your questions are well-received, and go ahead and ask, Luv.

We, DH & I, do the "do this" at the Seder.

I know of a local MJ synagogue that does "it" - once a month with levened bread - DH & I were so uncomfortable with their practice. We usually left the sanctuary so as to not have to refuse the "items" as they were passed around. It was one of numerous things that were instituted or not corrected so as not to "offend" certain people. :sigh:

I, personally, see communion as every time I break bread with my friends. Whatever bread we have, whatever drink we have. Jesus' teachings are to be remembered. :)

I do it at Passover, definitely. Otherwise if I happen to be at a congregation that does it monthly, I will do it with them as well. I feel that there are so many practices worldwide and the church has so many different worship styles that God accepts, I do whatever the congregation I am with does.

Wow, thanks, Steve-o! Now I can play with my signature some to get it how I want it!

I think this is a great attitude to have, too. What I'm really curious about is why some of you don't take Communion, or do, if you think it's fine. As I have time, I'm reading through the thread that was listed earlier, and I'm working on searching for other threads as well.

Thanks, everyone, for your input! There's so much to learn...

We don't believe that Yeshua instituted "Communion" but rather He gave a Drash (teaching) on the deeper meaning of part of the Passover ceremony - so it is "as oft as" we do that portion of the Seder that we "do this in rememberance" of Him. :) And certainly leavened bread (leaven being symbolic of sin) is not appropiate for use here :) That was what we found the most uncomfortable in the "Communion" that the one MJ synagogue did that I mentioned earlier.......
