Do I really need to be trained in it?

I aim to set up a dance and flag ministry workshop. But do I really need to be trained in it first. I have been thinking of it for ages, and know its my calling.
Can some one help me please? xxx

Uhhmmm, you need to have at least a "Dance vocabulary" before you can present a workshop... by that I mean, you need to know how to apply a 3count step, and a 4 count step, and which steps would fit in a song,,,, and how to apply the different steps to song....

With flags, you at least need to know what you are doing in oreder to teach somebody else.....

I do not think that one can teach if you do not at least have some experience

I think that what dancin' dude was suggesting was to put together a workshop and invite a qualified person to teach, and learn along with everyone else.

While that may give you a start, if you really believe dance and flag ministry is your "calling", you will make the effort to get some training.

Paul told Timothy to "study to show yourself approved to God", and we can take some direction from that. You may have a natural gift for movement, but you need the physical discipline that training can give you, plus you must have a vocabulary that you can communicate to others if you seek to teach.

I would suggest joining another local dance/flag ministry and learn what you can from them before trying to lead anything on your own. As you become a part of their community, you will learn of other sources for training.

I think you don't really need training...but if you have the possibility to get some take it :) it will help you....

in training you learn new steps which you can use in the group...and when you have done some dancing before it will be easier for you to develop a choreography and to plan a worksop since you know what's important and how these ind of things are organised....

and of course training will make it easier for you to explain others how to do the steps and to correct them if they do them wrong...that's something I found out....the more training you had the easier those things will be for you....

as for not having training and doing something like this I just can tell you that it's possible :) my sis has made several choreographies - and she never had any training...she even thought me some new steps and so on - and I had more than 11 years of dance training :)
so if it really is your calling I would suggest to rely on God, tell him about it and wait for him to show you the right steps :prayer:

i agree with that post, if you are going to start a group/ministry/be in charge of others, then there is a responsbility that you will have, besides teaching. it is possible that you have natural talent but anyone who is going to teach others needs to learn also. it is just laziness if they don't. you may start off without it but at some point, if you don't really know a lot it will eventualy show up in your presentation...that is where the enemy can come in and destroy the work.
take out the time to learn! there are a lot of people who have knowledge and who are willing to mentor you if you will seek them out. and there is a certain amount of respect that you will have if you have some knowledge about what you are teaching.

The bible says in II Timothy 2:15-"Study to show yourself approved, a workman, rightly dividing the word of truth" -KJV

Everything we do in dance ministry has a biblical meaning.
And as Minister's of Dance, it is our responsibility to know & to teach others the biblical meaning behind what we are doing.
Please visit: www.worshipdance.org
Here you will find almost all of the biblical words for dance & there meanings. You will also find the biblical meanings of colors, flags & banners. Please apply this to your dance ministry. I feel it is mandatory learning.

Also, we must be trained technically.
This is so that we can be safe & effective. Just like a professional majorette or a military colors barrier, you don't want your dancers dropping flags, hurting their wrist because they don't know how to properly twirl the flag; or, hitting people in the head with the flag poles!
Thats not the Spirit of God...God is Excellent in everything He does. We should be too! :amen:

Also, in the ministry of flags, there is nothing more annoying then when the flag or streamer gets wrapped & tangles around the flag pole. It distracting the message.

Please study, practice & be excellent for God!
Your dance ministry represents Christ!

Actually I need to say that I praying into courses that I can take that teaches and trains you in the ministry, and at the end of it I could have help with putting it all together and using my knowledge and new found skills to start my workshops at church!
