• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My cousin has Asperger's and I was wondering if I had it or a touch of it:

About me:

1.) I like focusing my attention on one subject most of the time. Whether it be God, my game, or etc.

2.) I have OCD

3.) I can be very loud

4.) I think alot about what I'm about to do or to the point where I feel shaky sometimes. Kind of like I overthink.

5.) I'm unsure of new things and changes in routines

6.) I sometimes don't know where to put my hands

7.) I am said to be high spirited and "different"

8.) I'm extremely creative and imaginative

9.) I don't get why anyone could be mean or gossipy

10.) I am good in social situations but feel overwhelmed with too many people.

11.) Sometimes if I feel I don't fit in I get shaky and timid.

12.) I don't get why anyone could be boring

13.) I can remember lots of things

14.) I remember detailed things

15.) I can feel hyperactive

16.) Sometimes I don't know who I am or what God wants.(could be self esteem)

17.) I spend more time then I should on studying notes

18.) I get really excited about events:birthdays, people, etc.

19.) I like bright colors

20.) Super friendly- never knew a stranger

21.) Confused with math and time

22.) Are unsure what to do in a rushed environment

23.) Always smiling and easily emotionally hurt

24.) Have ADD and anxiety disorder medicines

25.) I dont understand comebacks or retorts

That's about it! Tell me what you think.

lOL. I dont look for problems they come when they need to. Thank you for your reply though. I'm glad that you think I sound normal. I'm listing symptoms to get to know if I have what she has too. I'm curious because we're blood cousins. I've always suspected I might have Aspergers.

I suggest you Google "Asperger test" and take 1 or both tests. 1 is 50 questions, the other 150 or 200 questions. The tests are not diagnostic, but indicative. You sound a bit Aspie to me, and I think some of your 'non-typical' symptoms may be more typical of female Aspies. Let us know how the test(s) go.

That's really interesting you mentioned me taking some Aspies tests! I remember actually taking a Aspergers quiz and there being a indication of Aspergers traits before. Well I did what you said and I took 2 tests:

The first test was a Aspergers AQ test. It said if I got 32-50 on the score it meant I had full functioning Asperger's. I got a 24 for average math contest winner meaning I don't have Asperger's completely.

The second test I took was an online Aspies test on the rdos test site. It said that my results were neurotypical.

I guess I'm not a Aspie! It's strange though. I do have problems remembering phone numbers and some of the things the tests talked about. So I guess I just have a touch of it.

It seems that I am normal after all! Thanks for the feedback.

As I said, the tests are not diagnostic, but only indicative. Average score on the 50 question test for all takers is 16. What is average for female? I don't know. 80% of people on the spectrum score 32 or more, meaning 20% of people on the spectrum score less than 32. Based on your scores alone I woudn't rule it in or out. But if I had to, I'd say you were marginal. I'd recommend further investigation.

You may have what is known as the Broad Autistic Phenotype. I believe my father had that. He had many of the characteristics but not enough to get the Dx. I believe my father was the source of my Asperger's; my cousin on his side clearly had it. If you plan to have children you might want to become aware of such matters.
