You have posed an interesting question Lincolngreen and one that may not be answerable. I do recognize that you are very passionate in your beliefs. If you are anything like me you also feel that your beliefs are not only correct, but totally rational. In my mind I can trace the highly logical steps that lead to my conclusions on a number of topics, not just issues on faith and sexuality.
In my opinion most of the people (including myself) who come here and post are unusual. We feel passionately about something and make the effort to discuss it with others. This Christian forum is huge, it may even be the largest on the web, yet out of millions of Christians and homosexuals just how many feel compelled to come in here and post their thoughts? We may have more in common that you realize.
I used to get really frustrated when I read posts like the ones you and few others often make. Why can’t they understand? Why can’t they be rational? Why do they have to be so mean? I don’t feel that way anymore. I have come to recognize that the reason I was getting so upset was because I had incorporated what a friend of mine dubbed “certitude of rightness” into my thinking. This mindset is very compelling and hard to shake because it so comfortable, but it is also a mental straightjacket. It kept me from appreciating the fact that others have built logical conclusions of their own that differ from mine; conclusions that from their perspective are just as valid. I do not agree with many of things you write in your posts, but I do believe you are a rational human being and person that wants the best for us all. I also now believe that I am capable of being wrong. Merry Christmas Lincolngreen
