Do Genesis and Evolution REALLY contradict - Christian Scientist explains all 7 days:

[edited to repost with the Youtube version now available - that should be viewable to all].

Fans of Galileo will be pleased to know that he quotes the view of Galileo towards the Bible...

I do not have a facebook account, so I cannot get to the page.

However, I propose that Genesis and the theory of evolution could truly contradict only if they were the same genre and had the same purpose. I argue they are different kinds and therefore any contradiction is impossible from definition.

The same also applies to Genesis vs the Big Bang, Genesis vs the solar system, Genesis vs the globe etc.

Ah well, then you agree with the Christian Scientist in this vid.

Sigh... I've been trying to figure out how to convert Facebook vids to something more universal like mp3 or mp4 files and just keep getting stumped. Do you or anyone have any suggestions?

I hate for anyone to miss out on this guy because he does a pretty good job, imho, of reconciling Scripture (not exclusively found in Genesis, but also in Job) with Science.

He also does an excellent job of walking you through each day and how each one was unique to a particular purpose, utilizing effective observable insight of the physical reality with all it's complexity.

Just one of his theories that I'm pondering on: that the first 6 days God devoted His work to creation. And that on the 7th day, though He rests, that rest is mostly defined as doing the work of redemption. His contention is that the 7th day of rest and redemption continues from that beginning until the present (and will into the future until the last soul is saved).

How this is possible he reveals by pointing out that the definition of the word 'day' is not the same for all 7 days - as defined by the original language.

Intriguing, no?

God bless!

Well I'll be doggone. I think I found the right converter. Talk about an instant answer to prayer!

trophy33, can you go back to the OP and tell me whether the link works for you? Or anybody else out there? It works for me.

God bless!

The easiest way seems to be to publish videos on open platforms, like youtube.

It may work, but I think that most people will not click on such strangely looking link.

Yeah, a monster link to be sure. Thanks for your concern. I figure God will lead whoever He chooses to bless and to encourage vigorous discussion. If not, shrug, oh well. It wouldn't be the first of my posts to disappear into oblivion, ha!

The same Hebrew word for "day" (yôm) is used for all 7 days, so how is he concluding "that the definition of the word 'day' is not the same for all 7 days"? It makes no sense to think that each of the 7 days would not be of the same duration. That would be inconsistent and seems like a case of someone wanting to make the Bible say what he wants it to say.

All I can suggest is to watch the video if you're curious. He explains the meaning of 'day' in the original language and why he believes there is a difference. I would enjoy reading your response.

I would like to state that I'm not the least bit dogmatic about this man's opinions. I'm a neophyte in the areas covered and have posted this to spark a lively discussion from folks who are much more learned than me. I will, however, say that I chose this vid because I myself find his arguments intriguing and enlightening - not just in the area of original language, but especially in regards to how Science supports and harmonizes with Scripture.

I do predict that, however, no matter how one disagrees with him, that they will at least appreciate that this man is no slouch, that it's obvious that he has spent a lifetime in serious study in every disciplne required to come to his conclusions.

So... my intention is to sit in the stands and absorb and consider the responses of detractors and supporters alike. My goal is the same as everybody's - to grow in wisdom and knowledge.

God bless!

Long experience has taught me this about the status of mankind with regard to matters requiring thought: the less people know and understand about them, the more positively they attempt to argue concerning them.”

- Galileo

1) Whether God's time frame for Creation extended over 7 days or 4 billion years or if it was instantaneous or the result of evolution, is largely academic - if one believes that it was God inspired, questions concerning the time frames and the processes involved are all largely academic!

2) One would have hoped that Christianity would have learned its lesson not to arbitrarily place the credibility of its own faith into question - starting with the Inquisition that denounced Galileo's support of Copernicus' "heliocentric theory" as heresy, condemning this greatest scientific genius to "house arrest" for the rest of his life!

3) The real question that should be the focus of our attention is not to be diverted into endless squabbles over the "mechanics" employed as reflected by the Inquisition of Galileo - our primary concern should focus on what purpose does Mankind serve in God's universe!

I respectfully disagree. Any hopes we have for this or eternity hang on the trustworthiness of God's Word. As declared at the beginning of the Gospel of John - God's Word is Jesus.

The claim, therefore, by sincere Bible-believing, Spirit-filled followers of Christ is that the entire Bible - from "In the beginning God created..." to "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." - is all about Jesus.

So, is Jesus the Way, the Truth, and the Life as He claims? If so, He cannot lie. Nor does any portion of His written Word lie or misrepresent.

And we ALL know that that is what is at stake in all of our debates.

Macro-evolutionary theory, as stated most popularly, not only flies in the face of *observable* science, but in stark defiance against the claims of Holy Scripture. God's entire intent in all of His creation is to prompt man to seek to *know Him* and find eternal life.

For those who have done so by faith, who subsequently receive spiritual eyes and ears to see and hear - evidence of not only a supremely Intelligent Designer but also of Who He is - could not possibly be more abundant. That His Word is Truth trumps every conceivable imagination of mere man. He says His intent is to walk with us and talk with us - He has and is keeping His promise beyond all that we could hope or imagine - even to those of us enduring the most intense trials and tribulations around the world. We declare His goodness beyond all circumstances - because we know Him - and He has proven He knows us - and continues to love us despite our unworthiness.

There is no wiggle room or compromise allowed in interpreting what is presented plainly in Holy Scripture - unchanged going on ~ 6000 and 2000 years respectively now:

○ 6 days creation - either the truth or a lie.

○ Origins of mankind beginning with two fully formed human beings - either the truth or a lie.

○ According to the genealogies presented in the Bible, the heavens and the earth and all of its inhabitants trace back ~ 6000 years - either the truth or a lie.

○ The fact that the evidence of God is clearly perceived in His creation by ALL - either the truth or a lie.

○ The remarkable historical reliability and the true miracles of prophecies fulfilled - either the truth or a lie.

○ Our need for salvation and the Door through Whom we find it - either the truth or a lie.

From the witness of our own lives, and that of our brethren, we who follow Jesus are walking testimonies that God's greatest miracle is changing a human heart.

Speaking the universe into existence in 6 days, arks, floods, pillars of fire, parting seas, walking on water, instantaneous healing, raising the dead... easy to accept on its plain face by comparison.

Frankly, clinging to Genesis 1 or any "dubious" claims of Scripture will not excuse a man from accountability to a moral God. How tragic that the majority of mankind, in open rebellion against their own Creator, may never seek God - Truth Himself - to the degree as to discover that He is both Judge *and* Redeemer - to those who place their full faith in His Son. And that the establishment and exercise of that relationship reveals to a greater and greater degree throughout our walk here - that His Word is most certainly divinely inspired and living - what is seen through faith - itself His gift to us.

What an immense joy it is therefore to satisfy man's inherent curiosity by studying all aspects of His creation - there are no greater lovers of science than those who give glory to The Architect!

Thus is all God's Plan in its fullness in *everything* He has done and said since before He declared, "Let there be Light".

Hardly academic. Except to those who will forever worship only head knowledge, and harden their hearts toward God - when both are required to find Him. That is mankind's *true* objection to Him.

The most obvious scientific truth that none of us can avoid or pretend away - is that we all are under the sentence of death - as is everything on this earth that should be a paradise - and we know in our innermost being that it shouldn't be so. The source of this curse is either God - or ourselves.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is Good News for those who conclude it is ourselves and receive the gift of His Son for eternal life. It is tragic news, based on reality, for those who persist in blaming a Holy and Righteous God and reject the clearest demonstration of His Love for us, irregardless of our wretchedness, ever presented. Especially mournful as God declares His Plan for *each of us* as clearly as He can, in this and throughout Scripture:

Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
I would like to invite you, in light of pitting what you apparently deem to be representitives of the Church Universal - the Body of Christ - against demonstrable science - to devote serious study as to whether the Roman Catholic church *as an institution and its authorities* are indeed faithful to the testimony of Jesus Christ. And have and are conducting themselves in obedience to His teachings.

I will agree categorically that their fruits do not reflect a true devotion to Who Christ really is. No more apparent is it than to those abused by said institution throughout history.

Specifically in reference to the persecution of Galileo, first a broader look at the abuses done in the Name of God during this sad chapter:

From: Galileo affair - Wikipedia

"The Roman Inquisition, formally Suprema Congregatio Sanctae Romanae et Universalis Inquisitionis (Latin for 'the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Roman and Universal Inquisition'), was a system of partisan tribunals developed by the Holy See of the Catholic Church, during the second half of the 16th century, responsible for prosecuting individuals accused of a wide array of crimes according to Catholic law and doctrine, relating to Catholic religious life or alternative religious or secular beliefs. It was established in 1542 by the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Paul III. In the period after the Medieval Inquisition, it was one of three different manifestations of the wider Catholic Inquisition, the other two being the Spanish Inquisition and Portuguese Inquisition."

Note what is in particular the charge against opponents to the RCC:

"... responsible for prosecuting individuals accused of a wide array of crimes according to *Catholic law and doctrine*, relating to *Catholic religious life or alternative religious or secular beliefs."*

Holy Scripture is available here:

biblegateway.com

As a serious seeker of Truth, I would again invite you to compare the teachings of Holy Scripture against the *demonstrated* tenets and doctrines of the RCC - and to consider whether it is fair to broadbrush the remnant of the true Church - witnesses who proclaim and *live* the Gospel of Jesus Christ - with evidence of a personal relationship - thusly preserved throughout history in the midst of false prophets and teachers, wolves in sheep's clothing, tares amongst wheat, and goats amongst sheep. Just a few goodies:

According to the last pope - all religions lead to the same God.

The pope is the mouthpiece of God.

The pope is Christ's representative head - not Christ Himself.

The RCC has authority to promote violence, war, persecution of the citizenry, and subversion in the affairs of all nations.

A human priest actually has the authority to absolve sins!

The purchase of indulgences permits sin.

A single repetitive prayer - like a superstitious mantra - carries any weight with God.

The worship of statues, images and icons.

The need for ANY intermediary, whether blessed human mother or departed saint - to be allowed access to the ONLY High Priest and Advocate Jesus - or to bypass Him completely.

The derision of evangelism - which just so happens to be the Great Commission commanded by Jesus Himself.

Absence of any testimony of a personal relationship to Jesus Christ or the *only* Holy Father through the indwelling Holy Spirit- which is precisely what Jesus says is His whole intent - to purchase back for the Father an eternal family.

"You shall know them by their fruits." - Jesus
3) The real question that should be the focus of our attention is not to be diverted into endless squabbles over the "mechanics" employed as reflected by the Inquisition of Galileo - our primary concern should focus on what purpose does Mankind serve in God's universe!
Man's purpose is to glorify God. Ignoring, opposing, doubting, mocking, spitting upon, and crucifying His Word and Person is evidence of man's sinful desire to glorify himself above Him - just like that ancient deceived and deceiving spirit who inspires the world - and is already defeated and condemned.

Our need for the Savior, as He is, could not be more apparent. His victory is ours if we claim His offer of enduring grace through faith.

God bless us all do, and shall, believe and obey!

John 14:21 NKJV
"He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."

Top Bible Verses about Flat Earth

Isaiah 40:22 ~ It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;

Revelation 7:1 ~ After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow on earth or sea or against any tree.

Psalm 104:5 ~ He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved.

1 Chronicles 16:30 ~ Tremble before him, all the earth; yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.

Job 26:7 ~ He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing.

Matthew 4:8 ~ Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

Psalm 93:1 ~ The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.

Job 37:18 ~ Can you, like him, spread out the skies, hard as a cast metal mirror?

Isaiah 11:12 ~ He will raise a signal for the nations and will assemble the banished of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

**************************************************************************************

1) If we are to take Creation as described in Genesis 1 literally, then there is no reason to question the dozens of other verses in the Old and New Testament that portray the earth as 2 dimensional - some verses referring to it as flat with 4 corners while others describing it as a circle, as opposed to a 3 dimensional sphere!

2) The Bible goes to great lengths to describe the earth as "never be moved" and "firmly established"
while referring to the Heavens as "a canopy" and "a cast metal mirror!"

3) It was these Biblical verses and others that were used as the proof to condemn Galileo and others - Luther and the Protestants were no more accepting of this heretical vision of the world and the universe than their Catholic counterparts!

4) Given that few of us will be in a position to observe the world from space, are we left to condemn any and all scientific proof that presents the earth is a 3 dimensional sphere rotating around the sun and not an immovable object as false and contrary to Biblical teaching - as was the level of understanding until the last few centuries where man's view of the universe changed dramatically!

5) Our 21st C knowledge of science provides us with the knowledge to go beyond interpreting every verse in the Bible literally and allows us to ascertain its deeper meaning - but those advances in knowledge came at a high price where both the Catholic and Protestant Church systematically persecuted those with the audacity to go beyond the arbitrary limitations they imposed!

Interpreting parts of scripture differently than you is not the same as saying scripture is a lie.

Macro-evolutionary theory, as stated most popularly, not only flies in the face of *observable* science
No it doesn't. Leave science to scientists.

There is no wiggle room or compromise allowed in interpreting what is presented plainly in Holy Scripture - unchanged going on ~ 6000 and 2000 years respectively now
Why do you think you get to set the rules about what is and isn't allowed in reading scripture? Who do you think you are?

Top Bible Verses about Flat Earth

Isaiah 40:22 ~ It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;

Obviously God, being the Inventor of language, uses every conceivable literatary device, including poetry in some instances. He is the ultimate Romantic. Jesus used parables.

And?

No excuse to despise His Word or His sacrifice. I stand by my testimony. God bless!

A simple broken vessel like any other, who proclaims Jesus' message per His direction - like millions of my brethren today and throughout history.

A better question is... Who do you think Jesus is? He says He is a rock of offense to some, and a firm foundation for others. Easy observation of our world today reveals that, as in all things, He is devastatingly correct.

His invitation to know Him extends to all...

You avoided just about everything I posted to you and implied that I'm not a Christian (by asking me who I think Jesus is).

Sad.

Didn't avoid, just found irrelevant to the discussion.

As for implying whether you are or are not a follower of Jesus, I have yet to meet anyone who loves Jesus that isn't just chomping at the bit to share Who He is! That includes myself.

Why the apparent offense? You can grill and challenge me till the cows come home and then some. There are 1893 pages in my Bible to explore - let's get to it!

Go back and read my reply to you in #14.

When you are ready to accept my challenge in exploring Who Jesus is in Scripture, I will be thrilled to respond. Have a great day!
