Do dreams mean anything?

Can God talk to us through dreams?I sometimes have very vivid dreams about my family and friends.Ever since I was little,I have always had dreams about running away from a problem, and I am just wondering does that have a deeper meaning or not.

Hi @Christgirl67, it's clear, in both the OT and the New, that God has spoken directly to many via their dreams (including non-believers like Pilate's wife .. e.g. Matthew 27:19), but what your particular dream means, I cannot say (perhaps someone else can though?).

Question, is the problem you are running away from in your dreams always the same problem?

Also, a number of people in the Bible interpreted dreams for others, perhaps most famously, 1) Joseph for Pharaoh in Genesis, and 2) Daniel for King Nebuchadnezzar in the Book of Daniel.

Dreams are your brain's way of defragging and cleaning up your RAM. As they spin by in your sleep they rarely make much sense, but when they do they can be profound. I sometimes dream of a girl I went with many years ago, and I'm 'disturbed' by it for the whole day.

Perhaps it would help someone interpret your dream if they knew what that particular situation in your dreams is (though if you'd rather not say it here, no matter what the reason, then you shouldn't do so, of course).

Don't read much into dreams.

My wife is a saint but, her dreams can be pretty off-the-wall.

Many times aren't we glad just to wake up so as to escape some dream.

My wife is powerfully guided by her dreams. She was led to the house that we are living in now in a miraculous manner through a dream and guidance as the dream came to pass about three years after she had it.

Bible gives accounts of dreams and visions. I don't pay any attention to mine at all. The way I look at it is it's my mind out of control LOL

Yes. He has told us he communicates to us through dreams and visions. However, I wouldn't try to interpret them; usually if it is from the Most High you will be told the meaning, or you will know the meaning. You won't need to seek out a meaning.

If it confuses you, then that may be a call from the Most High to converse with Him - pray about what troubled you.

Even a good dream should be discerned with the [majority of the help from the] Most High God.

I too have VERY vivid dreams and it is every night however, I do not think any of them are from the Lord. If I did, I would spend most of my life trying to analyze them and going to those who claim to read dreams. I believe if God wants to give me a message He will do it simply and plainly so I understand. Plus unless you are an old man , the scriptures say they are the one's who have dreams by the Holy Spirit. I do think He chose the elderly as they are wise and have more discernment.

If I have a dream about someone in particular, it is a signal to me to pray for them. I am not saying that every vivid dream I have comes from God, because I have some bizarre ones at times. But I had one featuring my ex-wife and her appearance was that when she was still with me in the late 1970s. When I woke up, I felt I had to pray for her though I didn't know where she is or what she was experiencing. I just prayed that Jesus would enhance her experience with Him.

If I have to interpret a dream, I don't. I let it go. In the New Testament, when God or an angel appeared in a dream, there was a definite message involved that needed no interpretation.

Although I see that there is a gift of interpretation of tongues, I don't see any gift of interpretation of dreams, so if it ain't in the New Testament it ain't true for me.

about a wk later, my neighbor told me her unwed daughter was pregnant

There is quite a responsibility when that happens because we might be the only ones praying for specific people we know, so when we have a vivid dream like that, it is clear signal that our prayers are going to make a difference for them.

I believe that God gives a vivid dream about someone we know, because our prayer is going to be exactly the right one that God can work with. I think that is exciting that God would trust us like that to respond to that kind of prompt.

We might never know the outcome in this life, but I reckon there will be a lot of rejoicing when we get to glory!

I dreamed that a Cessationist (one who teaches that healing, signs and wonders ceased at the formation of the canon of Scripture) was standing before God in the Judgment and thousands of people came and cursed him for condemning them to remain sick, diseased, disabled, and to die before their time, when supernatural divine healing was available through the Gospel of Christ. I saw the Lord point at the Cessationist and say, “Because you lacked compassion toward the sick and disabled, I never knew you, so depart from Me you worker of iniquity!” Then a door down into hell opened up, and the Cessationist lost his footing and slid down out of sight.

Since Christians are to have love for one another and signs and wonders are for those who need proof, I have little confidence your dream is from the Lord.

Over the past 75 years I can only recall less than a half dozen dreams that had any real meaning to my life. The vast majority of dreams are just your anti virus program defragging your brain.

For me, repetitive dreams can signal to me that there is a deeper issue I may need to ask for God's help and healing with on an ongoing basis. For example, I have lost quite a few close loved ones and occassionally have dreams often relating to abandonment which I take as a hint from God that I likely have deeper issues related to loss that I need to keep bringing honestly before Him so I can work through my grief.

I think it is helpful to ask God during your prayer time with Him if your dreams are maybe hinting that there is a deeper issue He wants to help you resolve? If not, it could just be meaningless but there have been times in my life that dreams have been God's way of getting my attention in regards to needing more of His guidance on a particular situation...oh and sometimes I have really happy dreams that bring me a unique comfort/reassurance from God too. I think God can speak to us through a variety of different ways for a variety of different meanings.
