Hey guys, I'm new here + wanted to reach out. One day, I was talking with my Muslim friend. IDK how the conversation got there but she told me that she didn't think there were many Christian guys waiting til marriage. And I didn't really have a strong reaction to it, but it got me thinking. Do you guys think there is propaganda that basically paints the picture of very few Christian guys in the US? I often find it hard to picture someone my age who is actually committed to following God. Maybe it's because of where I live? (The east coast) Any thoughts? :)

I'm waiting till marriage im 23 soon .

Just something I've noticed, Christians have a tendancy to go home rather then be out running around. I don't really have a hand book on the habits of the Christian male but hopefully he is more into Bible study then Facebook.
Facebook is boring. Oh by going out you meant partying?

Of course he's not going out partying, probably doesn't eat out much. Has hobbies, maybe woodworking, computer or gaming interests and a close circle of friends. These days I don't know so much but sometimes there's an interest in layministry. You can go on missionary trip to South America these days, maybe something like that.

I think there are some unfair characterizations of what a Christian guy is and isn't. First of all, we should all strive to live up to the moral standards established in Christianity, including and especially those related to sexuality and relationships. With that in mind, people make mistakes and people sin. We all know this, but there seems to be certain substreams of thought that disqualify individuals from being Christian because they sinned. I'm definitely not going to defend those kinds of decisions, but we've all screwed up badly, and reconciliation with God seems to be easier than with fellow Christians at times.

Yes, there is in uptick in people identifying as Christians committing grave sexual sins—commensurate with the upward trend in immorality in our culture—especially premarital/extramarital sex. But, there are plenty of people who are repentant of those decisions and trying to live virtuous lives after the fact.

So... that's a long-winded way of saying sure there are Christian guys who haven't waited until marriage, but the ones who really care about their faith change their ways and it shouldn't disqualify them from being considered as a future spouse.

Hahaha yep. I know it's all in God's hands. I actually don't have anything planned. XD
re "planned"

Somewhere King David wrote (in God's Word),

Yahweh has scheduled (planned) all the days of my life (our lives),
even before the world was created.

He is Perfect in Every Way, and Perfect in Mercy, Perfect in Judgment, Perfect in Knowledge, Perfect in Wisdom, missing nothing (and missing no possibility), and nothing 'broken' nor wrong in His Plan(s).

Yes they do exist and I have tried to find them on my own strength for some time until I finally gave up. Then I got my relationship with God where it ought to have been, and admitted that I cannot find a Christian man suitable in His eyes. I said "if You have one in mind for me, then please show me - and if not, so be it. You are enough for me."

It was then that God placed in my heart to pray for a man I never met. One year later, we met online and are currently making plans to meet. :yellowheart:

So, what other sins and temptations do you plan on working on now? Certainly sexual sin and temptation isn't all. But since sex is pretty private and you opened that door, we can talk about just about anything else.

Probably likes the bbq grill better then the stove, doesn't color coordinate his clothes very well, always something doesn't match. Works a lot, has a room mate, a small dog, and some fishing tackle he rarely gets to use.

I think everyone has at some point. What do you mean by no pots + kettles? :D

It means one who is guilty of a sin shouldn't point a finger at others who are guilty of the same, in this case sexual immorality. If Jesus drew the line at dirty thoughts, and if what you say is true - "everyone has at some point" - then what is the point in questioning other people's purity? Game over for everyone.

Oh, but no one is questioning purity here. We're talking about media portrayal of Christian guys. :D

OK. The title of this thread, and the comment about finding it hard to find guys "actually committed to following God", made it sound like moralizing to me. My apologies.

We're talking about media portrayal of Christian guys. :D

In that case, the media portrayal in my experience is typically of uptight, judgmental guys who point a finger at everyone else while doing the same sins. Pots and kettles, iow.
