Do Charismatic/Pentecostal Christians lack discernment?

I suppose part of the problem is whats right for one person isn't always right for another.

And we need to try and look past those differences as well.

I just brought up the youtube Holy Spirit Hokey Pokey video to show it to one of my family members and my daughter heard it and started laughing and said ..."The God Hokey Pokey" ...she thought it was silly.

My daughter is seven years old and it is blatantly obvious to me that she has more discernment at 7 years old than many adult Charismatic/Pentecostal Christians.

Generally speaking, Charismatics do not discern "TRUTH" as the lawyers of the bible would, so they may appear to have a lack of discernment to the lawyer type denominations.

For the most part, Charismatics are [Soli Deo Gloria (Glory to God alone)] and don't have the least bit of interest in theology. When I worship I surrender myself to God the Father, and the Spirit of truth proceedeth from the Father. It's as simple as that. I pray on my own channel direct to God the Father, and I do not share that channel with anyone. I do not worry about what the guy next to me is praying on his private channel either. However, there is unity in the Holy Spirit, so we will all pray together as a "people" during a large crusade.

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:" (John 15:25-27)

I don't know what a 'lawyer' of the Bible is, but I'd say you've spotted a huge problem, although don't seem to recognize it as such.

Scared to go against leadership or unsound teachings because of percieved submission to authority being submission to God, fear of loosing friends, position or the place to belong to etc etc. You can check the teachigns and example of Christian leaders out against the scriptures as the berean's did. Checking it out is not the problem, what do you do when you realise the church has lost its path, that's the problem!

Hans Christian Anderson wrote a story called the Emperor's New CLothes. In this story the Emperor was walking around naked after being tricked by a false tailor. Everyone knew the Emperor was naked but no-one wanted to be the first to speak out. Finally a little boy laughed at the nakeness of the Emperor and everyone followed suite.

So it is with Charismatics and pentecostals. That little boy is going to laugh soon.

I think in general some so called PC s are so caught inside their therology box that anything not inside the box males them nervous and jerky. Then they begin to squawk.

Rhys shout decently and in order as a battle cry.

Discernment is needed for excesses and most certainly for those who are complacent. Both are just as bad.

Hello Tamara, I like your profile picture. You really look like a nice lady. I suppose you're right, but I've been in enough of these "christian love" threads to know that we had better defend our faith. The people who tell us that we lack discernment are not our friends. And, not by any stretch of the imagination.

My wife has been employed at Assemblies of God for 14 years, and at present I am in a small Vineyard Charismatic Church. Do you mind if I ask, "What Charismatic Church are you in?"

I think most of pentecostalism today has become a brainwashing scheme based on paranoia and fantastic dreams of escape. Our beliefs in praise, worship, and communion with the Holy Spirit have been replaced with a beast that seems similar on the surface but is entirely different in character--emotionalism. When people are convinced to feel and not to think, they will never have any discernment of any kind, and will easily be controlled. This is why the same story can be recycled time and time again with different parameters after each "prophecy" fails, each time with another price tag, and another enemy to hate.

Like I said earlier, my wife is employed at a Pentecostal Church, so I do go to church with her occasionally. The only change that I have noticed over a period of 14 years is that the music is much more like the Charismatic Worship music now. However, they still have the old fashioned choir dressed in robes standing in the background.

Is that the theme of your post? Are you complaining about the fact that Contemporary Charismatic Worship music is part of the Pentecostal churches now?
