The Catholic Church considers both sprinkling, and full immersion as valid for baptism. If requested, an adult can receive baptism by full immersion in the Catholic Church. In many Eastern Rites, baptism of both adults and babies is done using full immersion.

Thank you. I had no idea about the immersion for babies.

Your definition differs from ours.

Baptism is entering a new life in Christ. It usually requires an act of faith. In the case of an infant, or someone else incapable of an act of faith, one or both of the parents (or a guardian, or the Church Herself) "supplies" the Faith.

Exactly what sins would you like the infant to repent from? What sins has he or she have personally commited?

I think some denominations expect everyone to be a convert like the ones shown in the Bible. But if you are parents of a child and you are devout Christians that know the truth and the way and are going to raise them in the faith, What is the purpose of conversion? An if so what are they converting from? They will have all of their life to repent of their various sins.

Peace be with you.

Neat pic, thanks for sharing, wish I had one of my baptism.

I was baptized as an adult by pouring, basically leaning over a small freestanding baptismal font (sink basically). It was during the Easter Vigil service. In a full immersion or horse trough type baptism does that integrate directly in the Easter service, or is it done seperately?

Baptisms have their own seperate services. Mine was about an hour long I think...BTW I was baptized on June 29th on the feastday of Sts Peter and Paul, so it wasn't during Pascha. (Traditionally baptisms are mostly done on Lazarus Saturday and Pascha....but can be done at any time of the year....I'm not sure if it's the same in the CC though).

geocajun....I was originally considering using a little swimming pool, and having the baptism outside...but changed my mind. It's a good thing too, because it rained that day!

Baptism as i was taught is a symbol of our Faith to the Lord. It shows our desire to be born again in His eyes. Because we are all sinners even from infancy we are born that way. The condition of being a sinner does not come upon us but we are born into it. So to baptize an Infant is to protect them when they cannot protect themselves by proxy so to speak through the Faith and Love of the parents for the Lord. This si also why certain other sacraments in the Church are waited upon until the child is older. Having believed that the child has had that spiritual upbringing and is then ready to take on more in the Faith and understand more. This is also why they have God-parents assigned traditionally to the child so that if for some reason the parent cannot fulfill the obligation of being spiritual teacher they would then take over that role.
Does this better explain it to you?
In Christ
