Catholics did not determine the canon of Scripture; the canon of scripture was decided long before the first ecumenical council, but not by some grand decree from an organization, but by the faith of the saints of God who clearly saw the books as being inspired by God. Just because the Roman church claims the Early Church Fathers were 'Catholics" doesn't mean they would be 'Catholic' today.

Yea, we did and yea, they are.

I just wanted to put some references down:

Mary Mother of God is supported by the Gospel of John:

John 1:1, 14
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.

If the Word is God and lived among us as Jesus (reading the 1st chapter of John, you will see this is referring to Jesus), then Mary bore God in the flesh. This does not mean that she was before God, it means that the son she bore was Jesus who is God.

The Eucharist being the body and blood of Christ is supported by John 6:

John 6:53-56
So Jesus said to them, "very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood haev eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day, for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me and I in them."

In the Last Supper, Jesus held up the bread and wine and said, "This is my body...this is my blood." In John 6, Jesus refers to himself as the bread of heaven.

Gotta go pick up husband from work.

Yours in Christ,
Jen

As a Catholic, do you believe in OSAS? No way...

Nevertheless, ex-Catholic though I be, I still don't believe in OSAS. I still believe it was invented by the devil or his demons, even though there are some on this forum who disagree.

No I don't believe in OSAS but I don't think it is demonic.

Lets get back to the OP!

Which was:
Do born-again Christians sin?

Before you answer this question, let us allow the word of God to answer this question first.

1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again [or born us again] unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

The Word of God tells us if we are born again through faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, then we will not commit sin. Why? Because the seed of God, that spiritual power which raised Jesus from the dead, will dwell in us. If we walk in the Spirit, we will exhibit the fruits of the Spirit, and none of those fruits are sin. If we are committing sins, then we are in the flesh, and we know that nobody who walks in the flesh will enter into the Kingdom of God.

Who are you directing this to? I pray that the Lord helps you to see the Truth of His Gospel and that you learn to temper your views of other's beliefs with love and charity.

Well, being as how the apology started off with the name of the person it was addressed to I would think it quite obvious who it was directed at.

Generally speaking, though, I pray that God enlightens each of us to the Truth of His Gospel and that we all learn to temper our views of other's beliefs with love and charity.

God bless,
Don

I answered some of the concerns in a post earlier about born-again Christians not committing sin, however my post was censored due to my response against a particular religion. I have been warned not to say anything against that particular religion, and I hope those who are members of that particular religion feel safer knowing the moderators are protecting your seared conscience from those who would like to see the salvation of your soul.

As for the responses to the original point, especially Reformationist, I am deeply troubled. Jesus told many people "According to your faith, be it unto thee." If you believe that the blood of Jesus Christ did not guarantee a complete salvation from even the very thought of sin, then according to your faith. I can recommend certain Scriptures which can build your faith to a complete salvation from your sin, if you would like. Most people, however, enjoy their sins, and they enjoy the escape of guilt from their conscious by reciting "I've said the prayer, I'm OK," or, "It's OK, I'm one of the elect." I hope none of you are one of these people that say either of the preceding statements, for I believe better of you all.

The church needs to realize the depth of the destruction caused by sin. Sin, according to the Bible, is transgression of the law; we have a new law in the New Covenant, which is love (or, more AV1611-like, charity). If any of us commit any actions that are not based upon Biblical love, the kind of love that is sacrificial and selfless, with the glory of God through faith that it would please Jesus Christ and glorify His name, then it will be alright. If any of your consciences condemn you when committing certain acts, then be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might; He has given you the strength to perform that which is godly by faith in the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ and faith that He is able to perform His covenant with you as mention in Jeremiah 31:31.

May the Spirit of God rest upon you all, and I pray that the division and chaos that has rocked this particular thread may be repaired. I apologize for being abrasive and I will pay more attention to my posts in the future concerning tact. My only reason for preaching is to make everyone perfect in Christ Jesus, and I am sick of the filth and garbage produced by professing Christians; it gives God a bad name, and I can feel God's anger over those who call upon His name, yet who don't truly believe in His word.

Love, In Christ,
Danny
