Do babies get rewards in heaven?

Do you think babies or children get rewards in heaven? They haven't really done anything, but it also seems unfair they would miss out. Matthew 18: 1-5 seems like they will be the greatest and have the most rewards.

There is also the idea that all will get the same reward from the story about the man paying all his workers the same, no matter how much they worked. But there is also many verses that talk about rewards for good deeds. I feel like I will feel guilty for all eternity with all the rewards I could have had, by things I should or should not have done.

Thoughts/opinions? (By the way I'm new - greetings from Canada)

Their reward is.......

"You get back down there, no cheating!!"

King David said that he would go to his child that died (2 Samuel 12:23).

My feeling is that we grow and develop in heaven, so babies have a lot to benefit from, if that's so.
I agree, with an eternity ahead there will be lots of work for us to do, not a place of eternal laziness. And as we serve him, he will serve us, as shown in Luke 12:37.

I completely disagree with the both of you who say their is growth to be had. The bible teaches that we will become perfect like christ and if we are perfect we no longer need growth. One might ask well if we all instantly grow to perfection instantly at the resurrection what is the point of trying to grow in this life? Heavenly rewards is the answer. Higher position and authority in heaven. Babies will be made perfect as well, what rewards they have I do not know. However God has placed us where we all are to let out life unfold so we can seek him and know him. With knowing this and the only judgment christians get is that of rewards, it would follow that the babies will get into heaven but not have many if any rewards at the bema seat.

For we will be made perfect at the appointed time.
1Co 13:10
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

I agree that we will be made perfect, however that does not mean God won't have work for you, which he will reward. A child who never had the chance to work in this life would surely benefit from this. Thanks for the reply.

Well the earth will be renewed and made perfect as the new earth. There surely wont be backbreaking work like we have today. That was punishment from god for the sin of adam and eve. Any work we do would probably be better called an activity than actual work. One thing that is interesting is since there will be a hierarchy in heaven and we will be made kings and preists the question comes well who will we rule over? Will God create another creation for us to rule over or what exactly are we ruling over or for? I think thats going to be interesting to find out. Personally unless theres a verse I missed I don't think God is done creating and maybe we will be able to create things out of nothing then as well.

You sure have a headline that cuts attention!

To answer the question, I sincerily don't know. I just put my trust in the fact that God is love and that He is far more loving, just and fair than I am. That's how I personally deal with difficult questions like that.

First off great to have you join us.

A baby or child that has not sinned yet would not need to be saved, but would be in a save condition. The God I know, would provide them with heaven, but they would lack “Godly type Love”, since that is the first objective of man on earth and there does not seem to be a way for even previous human beings to obtain this Love while in heaven (having the free will choice need).

Since we as Christians on earth get our greatest satisfaction from serving others we might have the privilege and honor of caring for these new heavenly beings that have only a wonderful child for parent type love, but lack Godly type Love. We may constantly be protecting and preserving them?

Does it say that we'll become perfect in all respects the instant that we reach heaven?

Greeting’s from Finland :)

I don’t really know do people get rewards. However I believe people will get gifts. I don’t think anyone really deserves eternal life, so it will be the greatest gift for those who are righteous.

Because eternal life will be righteous place, I believe people will do well to others without any reward or wage ideas. And it will make it nice place. :)

What other form of perfection is there?
Yeh, I realized that that my wording there was a bit off. The point, of course, is that achieving perfection in heaven wasn't at issue, just whether or not it might happen as a process rather than "poof!"

I (and many other Christians) feel that there is good reason to think it won't be "poof!"

When you get your resurrection body you and the other christians who feel the same way you do may get a surprise.

As paul said in a twinkle of an eye we will be changed.
1Co 15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

I fully expect all of us to be greatly surprised when we reach heaven!

P.S. I don't interpret that wonderful passage from Paul to refer to the matter of "perfection." "Changed," yes, but I think he was speaking of something else.

Thanks. I always wonder what gift could make eternal life (the greatest gift of all) any better. Even the 24 elders will throw their crowns at the feet of God. Perhaps some questions are best not left to our own understanding.

In this thread, the use of the word Heaven, while not per se erroneous, makes me feel compelled to stress the importance of the resurrection and "the life of the world to come," as emphasized in the Nicene Creed. Some people subscribe to an erroneous crypto-Gnostic interpretation, in which the soul is permanently severed from the body and consigned for all eternity in a blissful or horrible immaterial realm, and that view of Heaven and Hell is foreign to Christianity.

Gen 15:7 After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision,
saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

Thats the only reward I care about losing.

I cant think of other things (or rewards) I would desire other than more of Him in His rewarding.

They don't, have you not read,
God "will repay each person according to what they have done." (Romans 2:6 [NIV])

And also,
And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. (Revelation 20:12 [NIV])

How can a baby that has done no works be rewarded? Or even condemned for that matter? Therefore, any baby that dies perishes, and neither partakes in the reward for those that did good nor in the condemnation that did evil. If God had determined for the baby to receive reward or condemnation, he would have allowed the baby to grow forth into a mature person to then do good or evil works. Therefore, if a baby dies, the baby perishes into oblivion.

Where is this oblivion verse you speak of? The great white throne judgement is for unbelievers, unless you think your works are getting you into heaven? Only the imputed righteousness of Christ can do that, by faith in his blood and believing in him. (Romans 3:24 to 26)
