Yes, I know I'm responding for Alec, he can respond later. Just wanted to say that I really like Stereolab. I bought Transient Random Noise Bursts With Announcements not long ago--not only is the name friggin' cool but the album is wonderful as well. "Jenny Ondioline" is a masterpiece in my book.
Hooray I'm going to see Stereolab next month in Glasgow! Can't wait!! :)

AlecEiffel, you rule! I like almost all of that music. The Cure is my favorite out of that bunch that you listed. Have you ever heard Stereolab?

Yes, listened to only one song, it was called reel around the fountain,or something of the like. Didnt one of their members get in a car crash or something? I thought I remember hearing that awhile ago.

Isn't Reel around the Fountain a Smiths song? In fact I know it is, a good song it is too.

Don't know about the song, but Mary Hansen was the member of Stereolab that died. She was hit by a truck while riding a bicycle :(

I'm missing stereolab when they come to my city; I have a friend coming into town and she's not all that into music. I'm going to see the Walkmen, the Wrens, and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists next month, hopefully they should be good shows. is anyone here a fan of nine inch nails?

i have one stereolab cd 'emperor tomato ketcup' or something to that effect. they sound alot like deerhoof, at least in one of the tunes, is there some reason for this? do their other cd's have french singing in them like this cd??
Is Anyone going to Coachella???? Stereolab will be there, along with alot of other good bands.

and nico, i haven't really heard much of nin, but do you like gothic music? I was checkin that out for awhile, and I like it. Do you know bella morte? I bought their cd and its pretty good! and i bought a siouxie and the banshees cd thinking it was gothic music, but it wasn't what i expected.

you know I hesitate saying I like a certain style of music, b/c I know so little about music. I like music when it speaks to me, or I appreciate the songwriting or the playing abilities, or innovation, or something like that. man, that sounds like such a copout, but seriously, my knowledge base of music is so little and naive and I don't like to expound on things on which I have little knowledge, so all in all, I don't know if I like gothic music. I do like NIN, though probably most for trent reznor's lyrics and other things as well. the other bands you mentioned I have never heard of, but if you tell me more bands that are gothic, I will check them out, see if I like them, and then I can tell you if I'm a fan of gothic music or not...... :)

So are you a big Nico fan, Nico? I don't have much of her stuff (except, of course, for The Velvet Underground and Nico. I also have a VU boxset that included a couple of her tracks-- "Chelsea Girls" and "It Was a Pleasure Then." Good songs, both of them, esp. IWAPT, very chaotic and interesting. Coulda been on VU's first album almost. But anyway, where should I start if I want to get some of her solo stuff?

Man, you just listed off a chunk of my CD and tape collection. I am impressed that someon who is 17 (according to your profile) is into this kind of music. The Pixies were my favorite band for a LONG time. I think I have every recording they have made, including some expensive import singles and such.

I'm afraid I'm going to disappoint you. I am not a Nico expert, only know her from Velvet Underground, really. On a completely random sidenote, are you an Andy Warhol fan? I only ask b/c of your interest in the Velvet Underground...

Sorry, but I'm as much an Andy Warhol fan as you are a Nico fan ;)

I know of some of his "pop art" stuff, but I really don't know of him that much other than the "producer" of The Velvet Underground and Nico.

I'm a huge '80s fan, so I know the New Order and Joy Division songs you mentioned. Re: New Order: what do you think of the song "Blue Monday"? I personally think that's their biggest hit.

BTW, if you like these bands, you may also like Depeche Mode. But be careful w/ their stuff: some of it isn't exactly Christian in its message.

blue monday is good. they got some good stuff though. I've listened to Depeche mode before, I like what I've heard...how is it not christian? they have a song called Personal Jesus, I cant remember the lyrics but it didnt seem anti-christian.. and nadro, neutral milk hotel is indeed beautiful. I gotta get one of their cds soon.

well what does the song say about God? I mean, unless a song outright swears and curses God, its fine by me. I've listened to some songs where people question God, not in a disrespective way, they dont swear or anything, they just raise questions and doubts..and I think everyone can relate to that. I'd rather have someone tell how they really feel about God in a song rather than biting their tongue and not writing it at all. but thats just me.

so i just bought my first All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors album, Straight Blue Line. It's really good (well, so far, I just put it in my stereo and have only heard the first 3 tracks) but I'm definitely very into it. I suggest people check them out.
