Sure thing bro. I have seen Mogwei and GYBE, and Sigur Ros for that matter, live and they were all awsome! Have you heared "Loveless" (an album) by My Bloody Valentine?

"Loveless" is great!! "Only Shallow" and "When You Sleep" are great songs. That album sounds like nothing else, really original. Do you have any other MBV stuff, is it any good? All I have is "Loveless."

Oh BTW, is your username referring to the singer Nico? She's really cool too, and anybody that was remotely involved with the Velvet Underground is great in my book ;)

very astute :)

the MBV album Loveless is a MUST. It is phenomenal. I'm listening to their Isn't Anything album right now, and it's good, but loveless is far superior. Loveless is just more dense and stunning and the vocals have a more dreamy, washy aspect. All the sounds of every aspect combine to make it all incredible. But I like Isn't Anything, nonetheless. Oh, also, Kevin Shields of MBV did the sound track for Lost in Translation....i saw the film and some of the sounds sounded similar to loveless, but I don't know if he used tracks from loveless or did new stuff or what. I haven't listened to it, except when watching the movie. Slowdive is nice too, but it's definitely a mellow cd (souvlaki). Has anyone heard of autechre? I've heard of them, but not listened to any of their music.

I've also heard of Autechre, I downloaded a couple of their songs the other day actually. Pretty experimental, I like them even though I haven't listened to alot of electronica. I got turned on to them a bit when I heard they were an influence on Kid A/Amnesiac era Radiohead, and I can definitely hear a bit of resemblance (minus the vocals).

cool, we all have some similar tastes, the 'loveless' album is great, and broken social scene is awesome, gotta love 'almost crimes' and all the songs on the first half of that cd. super furry animals is dope too, havent been able to pick up there older cd rings around saturn or something ( dont really remember title, thats probably totally off )

I've got 2 autechre cds, and ill have to say that they are awesome. . For IDM, i suggest PLAID's 'not for threes'. a little more accesible, and absolutely beautiful cd. Boards of cananda is an absolute must, although they are a bit more on the dark side. If your into hip-hop at all, try out prefuse 73.

anyone like tortoise, man i love thes guys, another good post-rock band

oh yea check out relevantmagazine website , its a christian magazine, and they are always talking about similar music on their forums

Hey guys can I join in the backslapping? :p

I would concur with most of the tastes expressed so far. I'm really into 'post-rock' stuff too ie Mogwai, Tortoise, Godspeed you black emperor, and Slint (the grandaddy of them all).

Other stuff I like are (in no specific order)
Interpol, Cat Power, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Plaid, Autechre, Roots Manuva, The Pixies, At the Drive-In, grandaddy, Pavement, Shellac, Bjork, Bonnie Prince Billy, Joy Division, Mars Volta, Low, Flaming Lips, Blur, Elliot Smith, Four Tet, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Smog etc etc. i could go on for a while.

Happy listening folks!

I have 1 album of Low's, Things We Lost in the Fire. I don't know exactly how I feel about this particular album. I've only listened a few times, and many of the tracks sound, at first glance, pretty similar. It's a very mellow and slow album. You gotta be in a clam and wistfull mood or else you get bored. The girl's voice is really pretty and ethereal. I think I just need to listne a bit more and I kinda want to check out a few of their other albums. they contrast some soft vocals w/some guitar reverb and feedback, which I like, but I guess lately I've been feeling like something a little bit more tense.
I would check them out though. I've been listening to MBV's Isn't Anything a lot more recently and it's growing even more on me. In fact, the first song, which @ first I wasn't so into, has grown on me. I think it's one of the sexiest tracks on the album. Isn't it funny how you have to sometimes work your way into some stuff?

Slint were doing post-rock back in the late eighties before most of your Godspeeds or Mogwai's had come along. In fact early Mogwai stuff borrows heavily from Slint. Slint bank members have also been heavily influential on other artists rg. Dave Pajo (aka Papa M) has been involved in Tortoise, Stereolab, Zwan. Brian McMahon plays in The For Carnation and was involved with Squirrel Bait. The others have played with guys like the Palace Brothers, Gastr Del Sol etc etc.

Shellac may be a bit harsh for some ears. They have a very stripped down sound, much like Low but in a very different way. Copper or Watch Song would be good places to start with Shellac. Search www.epitonic.com for Low and Shellac and you can download tracks.

cheers,
Andy

Yeah, I think Shellac are an aquired taste - which I have not aquired yet! They are interesting but I am not that keen. I do like Slint, but I do not own any albums, a friend just lent me one once. (The same friend who lent me the Shellac album, and who introduced me to GYBE, Mogwei, Sigur Ros, MBV for that matter... I really aught to introduce you guys!)

AlecEiffel, you rule! I like almost all of that music. The Cure is my favorite out of that bunch that you listed. Have you ever heard Stereolab?

Yes, I know I'm responding for Alec, he can respond later. Just wanted to say that I really like Stereolab. I bought Transient Random Noise Bursts With Announcements not long ago--not only is the name friggin' cool but the album is wonderful as well. "Jenny Ondioline" is a masterpiece in my book.
