for me when I started getting freedom over sins of the flesh was when I listened to steve gregg teachings on the function of grace. I learned that the thing that is amazing about grace is that it gives us the power & the will to stop sinning. Most people LOVE their sin & don't want to give it up. When we realize our wills are fallen too, then we can pray , "Father, I have this sin in my life and I love it. I don't want to quit doing it but I know it is sin. I confess it as sin to you. Would you please change my will & give me the power to resist this sin and remove the desire from me? Would you please lead me into your precious promises and show me the power and wondrous gifts you died to give me?"' something like that or along those lines.
I promise you, if you start telling the Lord that you're powerless over your sins and you ask Him for His grace to put it away, He will empower you to stop it forever. Upon any remnant desires pop up, just pray & the grace rushes in immediately. When I learned this, the glorious amazing nature of grace opened up before me and then I understood finally what Christ did for us on the cross. He gives us through His grace the power to stop sinning. What's hard after that is "seeing" what sins we have so we can repent of them and receive this amazing grace. The Holy Spirit has to show it to us and convict us of it before we can repent of it. I believe anyway. There's a lot of theological debates about this stuff but I firmly believe the Church really started losing out when they quit teaching the power of grace to deliver from sin.
