I have a 13 month old son and i couldnt even imagine squeezing his hand, slapping his hand, and certainly not hitting him with a wooden spoon. He is so little. He is exploring his world and learning about what things taste like, feel like, etc. A child this young isnt defiant. They only want to know all about the world. If he goes for buttons on a vcr it isnt because he is being bad or defiant its because he wants to see what buttons do.
I am appalled at the advice from Gracies pastor about hitting a 6-12 mos old child with a spoon. What in the world would ever warrant such abuse! Yes i will call it abuse because that is what it is. Gracie, i think you might want to look for advice elsewhere for you poor little 8 mos old child, she is way to young to even understand why you would be hitting her with a spoon in the first place. You would only be abusing her if you hit her with a big wooden spoon. We as parents want the easy way out, but it takes alot of time and energy and effort to be a parent. hitting with a spoon would be easy. Moving things, distracting, babyprooffing your home, sitting down and showing her how things work..those are the things that take the time and effort. From all the books i read children wont even understand discipline till they are 18 mos old or older. If i saw someone hit their 8 mos old with a wooden spoon i would call DCFS on them. Be careful or someone might call on you and they will take away your child for abuse and thats for sure.
Just the thought of a 6-12mos old baby being hit like that makes me cringe so bad. use your motherly instinct. The pastors kids probably know a great deal about FEAR and so they APPEAR to be well behaved, but inside they are hurting and by the time they are teenagers or in their 20's they will probably be rebelling like theres no tomorrow. I have seen it before.
Done with my rant. Sorry, i am not gonna just sit here and be quiet when someone is talking about abusing their 8 mos old child. Its plain wrong!
