Why would the salinity of oceans be the way to guess the age of a planet? How much ocean salinity does Mars or Venus have? I guess none. Their age is therefore 0?

Ocean salinity is an old creationist claim which a) was refuted years ago and b) gives an age older than YECs are comfortable with anyway.

I'm not going to get into this with anyone.

I made a general statement, and I'm not qualified to handle the specifics.

For the record though:

A common young-Earth creationist (YEC) argument for an Earth that is only 6000 or so years old is the “salty seawater” argument. The salty seawater argument, in its simplest form, states that one should be able to determine a maximum age for the oceans by measuring the rate at which various salts—such as the sodium in sodium chloride; and other metal ions—are entering the oceans and the rate at which they are being removed from the oceans, such as through sea spray, and calculating backwards to a time when there would have been no salt in the ocean.

Personally I'm not a YEC, so it doesn't matter to me if those methods are denied or not.

If the methods are wrong, then science is right to deny them.

If the methods are right, then science is wrong to deny them.

I don't care either way, since I'm comfortable with the earth being billions of years old physically.

But what I won't accept is any explanation that the earth has been in existence beyond 4004 BC.

Questioning me isn't going to get you anywhere.

I don't know litmus paper from toilet paper.

People who question me about science or theology, when they could use Google and get a better explanation, raise red flags.

But I've come to expect over the years that people aren't really interested in THE answer.

They're more interested in what the person they are questioning thinks.

When it comes to the Bible, educatees are more than willing to set their scientific method aside, along with the dictionary, Google, and anything else that will give them THE answer.

I mean, if God wanted to have a full grown Earth with all its history of the growth, why would He not just let it grow naturally? Why the impatience - creating it immediatelly with scars from battles that never happened?

Is not patience a virtue? (Speaking like a human, God is not in our timeline, anyway, so for Him, billions of years is no waiting).

Is it not what you are proposing? So many historical layers of billions of years and evolution all around us, on our planet, in our genes, in the universe around us. And you said it just appears to be so.

Would not it be more effective to let the nature do its natural thing and create a dramatical text allegory putting the world's creation into 6 symbolic days so that ancient people could relate to its symbolism?

pssst... your pastor's not a scientist and he's too dumb to know what science is. This is known as the Dunning - Krueger effect. He's not aware enough to know what he doesn't know, and what he thinks he knows, he doesn't understand. This is what religion does to a person; it allows them to have the "Truth" without an education.

If you just make up 60 different numbers to suit your religious dogma, and then scientists demonstrate those numbers are wrong using real evidence, data, research, then it's not hard to figure out "scientists would deny ...".

Anyone could pull a piece of paper out of a hat and conceivably say "the Earth was formed last Thursday" and it wouldn't be hard to "figure out" that your pastor would deny that method of determining the age of the earth.

Scientists have actual evidence that they base their conclusions on. Your pastor does not.
