Hi there. I feel I'm only a novice when it comes to photography, but i believe I have hidden talent. I got a Konica Zoom Lens camera (38mm-110mm) for my 18th, and it has allowed me to produce some pretty amazing quality pics, both of people and of skies, scenes and close ups of flowers etc. I will scan some soon to show you all and see what you think....
I would really like a digital camera for my 21st birthday (in under 5 months) and I've started looking, but i'm wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I'm hoping to be able to get one for under £50, and it doesnt have to be the latest model, but I would like one that will allow me to take quality close up images.
Any thoughts?

Here is a pic i took with my sisters Fujifilm digital camera:

I assume you're in Europe somewhere. I'm not exactly sure what your $50 is equivalent to here in the states, but usually the decent digital cameras are a bit of money. I have a Sony DSC-S75 which is old now, but I am looking to get a new one. I think it's how you use the camera that will give you quality pictures.

I also LOVE photography! And I also LOVE roses :D

For Macro photography I would suggest the Olympus or Kodak. The Olympus can focus on very close objects but doesnt always have the best quality. But the Kodak has amazing picture quality but you have to be atleast a foot away for the camera to focus. The Kodak costs about $300 and the Olympus costs about $150.

You'd have to say what you were wanting to do with the pictures for someone to say properly. If you are printing then what size would you be doing it at? I don't think you could get a decent macro camera for £50. It would more be £100 upwards. I managed to get a 5 MP camera for £120 on sale which was a good deal.

That's a right lovely picture you have there. I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ5S and I am loving it. Do you prefer nature pictures? Flowers and foliage are easy to shoot, and they look nice when enlarged to frame. I have some of my favorites framed.
It's SO good to see someone else using a Panasonic. I have a Lumix DMC FZ20. I love the quality pictures I'm getting with it. I just went on vacation and took 470 pictures (eegads!) p.s. it says it's your birthday this week so happy birthday!!

When purchasing a camera, go with a brand that you associate with photography, as opposed to computers. Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Fuji etc. have been doing the photography thing for decades. Although I'm a loyal Canon fan, most of the big guys make a fine product. Go with the camera that feels right for you.
