Liberals and conservatives are very alike in the sense that each side views the other as immoral and evil. If you love only those who love you, what good is that?
Consider that Jesus said to LOVE those who oppress you and speak evil of you.

What I observe of American politics is the increasing tendency of your leaders to express principles in terms of good or evil. axis of evil evil-doers "there is no neutral ground between good and evil" [quote by Bush]. This type of talk sets up divisiveness in a nation. Theres no room to find the middle ground or appreciate the other's views. It espouses that Im right therefore you are not only wrong but evil. I have noted that increasingly the level of diviseness has increased where there is almost open animosity between conservative and democratic supporters.

If a nation is to be great then it requires cooperation between leaders and a vision the entire nation can support and work towards. Terms like Right/Wrong or Good/Evil will continue to rip the country apart.

There is real Right and Wrong, but it's not defined by 'conservative' nor by 'liberal'. Not even partly. These two political labels are your culprit for the decisiveness you correctly sense.

True right and wrong are defined by the words of Jesus. Like so --

"So in everything, do to others as you would have them do to you, for this sums up the law and the prophets."

You've done the very thing that I believe progates the division in your nation - Pointing to the other side and calling them evil because they have a different view to yours on any given topic. If you continue to talk in this way, particularly at a leadership level, democracy weakens. The two sides of the political divide will not cooperate. My observation is that this is already happening.

The etymology of liberal is from liberalis means "pertaining to freedom". I like that.

The main difference is that Democrats want to help those who refuse to work. And Republicans help those who can't work.

Your final comment suggests compromise; entering the gray area i.e., treading water (doing nothing that will offend the other party). Directed action is required to solve problems. In my analogy conservative take direct action to save themselves by going directly at the solution. Liberals, if they started swimming at all, would take off in all directions, or the direction that the most emotional one in the group chooses.
