  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Die Hard Skeptics and Scoffers

Pascal's Wager is a poor argument. You cannot worship all gods excusively at the same time.
For me there is only one true God. So we either worship and serve Him or not.

Most atheists and agnostics live a "good" life by our society's standards. Many Christians would say that isn't good enough, because one must accept Jesus as their savior.
Jesus is the only way to be saved. There is no other way becasue He died on the cross for us and for our sins. Of course if we live a good life then we will receive the benifit of that. Even communism teaches the benifit of helping others.

BTW Jazer, I see you as a "die hard skeptic and scoffer" of science. Just so you know. ;)
Yeah because very few Christians want to deal with unbelievers. So I often have 5 or more people trying to carry on a discussion all at the same time. So I take short cuts.

Does not make any sense that they moved it to a christian only board when it was suppose to be a open discussion with unbelievers, whatever you want to call them.
The KJV calls them "heathen"...kewl word, and would that be considered a derogatory term for them today? :)

Blue Letter Bible - Search Results for KJV
"heathen"
occurs 150 times in 145 verses in the KJV

Last time used:

KJV) Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, [saying], In thee shall all nations be blessed.

For me there is only one true God. So we either worship and serve Him or not.

Pascal's wager depends on the 'better safe than sorry' philosophy that if you don't know whether there's a god or not, you've got everything to gain and nothing to lose by believing that he does exist.

Of course, when we broaden our worldview a little (scary, I know, but stay with me here) we see how absolutely pointless a wager it is. I can believe in god, or not--two choices, one in which I lose everything if I'm wrong, and one in which I lose nothing.

But wait! What if there are more than just one god? And I'm supposed to be worshiping several of them? Now there's three options--two in which I lose everything, one in which I lose nothing. What if it's actually a single god, but not the single god I was originally thinking about? Now there are four options, etc. etc. etc....

And that's just talking about various gods. What if reincarnation is actually the answer, but it only works if you believe in it? What if aliens will come and extract your soul at the moment of death, but only if you believe in them? The possibilities are literally endless, there's no concrete evidence for any of them, and with each new 'what if' the odds of choosing the right answer get lower and lower and lower....

In other words, using Pascal's Wager in any argument against non-believers is... well, stupid. No non-believer was ever convinced by it or ever will be.

But you don't even seem to understand the nature of the wager to begin with. Pascal's wager is based on agnosticism, not on confidence in the existence of a specific god.

The Bible says you are either for God or against God. You are either a friend of God or an enemy of God. Some people like in Pascal's Wager seem to think that it would be better to error on the side of caution. If there really is a God who created this universe then He maybe powerful enough that it maybe a good idea for us to be on His good side. The issue then becomes do people actually live the life that God calls us to live.

So I wonder if this can go either way. If people can claim to believe and not live the life we are called to live. Then can people claim NOT to believe yet live the life that God calls us to live? I think that most Christians would agree that to be a Christian you have to be born again. If the power of God is not working in us then we are just not able to live a life that is well pleasing to the God that created us.
Nice to see you've made a thread just to insult non-Christians. Was there a question you wanted to ask, or...?

Evolutionists impose their attitude as much if not more. They want to force the teaching of evolution.
Science should be taught in the science classroom. Neither creationism nor ID is science.

They want to allow perverted marriage. That is a lot of why we are having this discussion here. It does end up in the court system every now and then. I am not against civil unions. People have rights. Christians have rights also. If Gay marriage is legal then people could be fired if they refused to take part in that.
Absolutely false. No one is going to fire you for not getting gay married.

So as Christians we have rights that should be protected also. One of our rights is not to have to put up with what we consider to be disgusting. That is why the government limits what is on TV. Also a lot of the filth should have been eliminated off of the internet so our school age children would not be exposed to it.
Are you unfamiliar with the First Amendment?

Our government and our court system failed us. This alone is a tragedy of immense proportions. I have heard the argument about people doing what they want in the privacy of their home. But that is not the case when they expose anyone with the ability to use a computer to that filth and debauchery.
You have no right to not be offended. If you don't like what's on the internet, stay off the internet.

To make a mockery out of marriage could very well cause disaster. Many Americans cities are on the brink of disaster and only one storm surge away. The East Coast just got hit a lot harder then ever and we are told that with Global Warming we can expect the storms to get even worse then they have.
Non Sequitor. Gay marriage is not a cause for global warming.

Gay men dress far hotter than straight men....

Just sayin'. ;)
This verse gives new meaning to the "Rainbow" coalition :)

Search for 'Genesis 1:1' in the version

NKJV) Revelation 4:3 And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance;
and [there was] a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.

The Bible says you are either for God or against God. You are either a friend of God or an enemy of God.

The Bible was written by folks trying to fill a collection plate.

Some people like in Pascal's Wager seem to think that it would be better to error on the side of caution. If there really is a God who created this universe then He maybe powerful enough that it maybe a good idea for us to be on His good side. The issue then becomes do people actually live the life that God calls us to live.

If there is a God, the question becomes, "Is he worthy of reverence?"

So, we don't really matter. It is all up to God.

Now I don't like many of the people who claim to be his friends. I don't trust their morals, or their judgment. So, I'll just wait and see.
