• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I quit for about 90 days and then started up again, but the amount i smoked has dropped significantly 40 a day to 10 a day.

I think prayer is about the best way to stop smoking. Oh and if you do smoke a cigarette after quitting for a significant time, don't think of yourself as a complete failure and start smoking all the time again, throw away the packet and continue where you left off ( I personally went down the 'i'm a complete failure' route and started up again).

I have quit so many times I have lost count and I can quit for long periods of time. I've been quit over a year before and start back because I gain weight and foolishly think I'll lose it back if I start back smoking. I've also started back because sometimes when I quit my cravings for alcohol and drugs come back so I figure cigarettes are the lesser of the evils. I've been quit this last time since Sept 2nd and this is the first time I've used any kind of products to quit--I'm on the commit losenges and want to stop them but can't seem to do that yet. My daughter just had my first grandbaby and wants no smoking at all around her and the baby which I'm glad she's like that and that has been my main motivation this time. It's just gotta be the toughest thing for me anyway to give up but I'm 4 months and counting but do feel like I'm cheating since I'm on the commit losenges.

Congrats on staying smoke free for 4 months - that is fantastic...and get that thought out of your head that you're cheating by using the lozenges -- you're NOT smoking are you?!!

The smoking demons will try to undermine your efforts all the time - just ignore those thoughts, and don't worry about leaning on NRT (I use NRT too and I don't think I'm cheating either) and eventually the need will lessen. Maybe try to replace every other lozenge with some strong chewing gum instead - I find Airwaves gum is great, and sometimes have one of those instead of nicotine gum. Do whatever you have to do, but don't smoke (your quit is the best thing you ever did) and post here, post on quit smoking forums, keep counting the pluses - especially now you have grandchildren to watch grow up!!

God Bless:thumbsup:

Quitting smoking is a very hard thing to do, I know...The doctor told me that if I didn't quit that I would die from emphysema, and still it was a very difficult task..but I never stopped trying...I would quit and start back, quit again, start again...I did this over and over for at least one year...I didn't think that I was ever going to do it...the main problem for me was worrying about the weight gain. I finally did something different, I started a diet and quit at the same time and that time I did it...I have been smoke-free now for 3 years and 7 months...
I do have a touch of emphysema, and am on tons of medication but I do feel good today...The doctor says as long as I take care of myself and stay away from smoking that I will be o.k...
Please whatever you do DON'T EVER GIVE UP TRYING...May God bless all of you and keep the faith...
I also used NRT...I used the patches...
