This cannot be properly addressed w/o understanding what "the Sabbath" IS. It is a topic addressed throughout the Bible, but never revealed until the Father does so via the Holy Spirit, and I've only ever seen that revelation come after the revelation that Jesus is the Christ, never before.

So if your question is framed purely legally, it becomes a very sticky issue, and not resolved. I say that is very much on purpose! In that light you could say He violated the letter of the law, strictly speaking; but accomplished the objectives of the law, which would make it very difficult to say that He broke it in any way.

To one who is not under law but actively partaking of God's Grace, the issue becomes entirely different, and a whole new world opens up.

No Jesus never broke the Sabbath. What he and the other Pharisees didnt agree on was what is referred to as "the traditions of the fathers".

If you look at the issues, and I will only point out one - healing on the Sabbath - you will see that they disagreed over whether it was permissable to heal a person on the Sabbath. Jesus said it is ok because people are more important than the commandments, he emphasised this again with the story of the Good Samaritan.

The Pharisees were most likely to be of the House of Shammai, because their interpretation of the Torah (Law) was very restrictive. At the time of Jesus two schools of though vied for power - Beit (House) Shammai and Beit Hillel. Hillel was more liberal and it is this school which came out as one which modern Jews follow. Beit Hillels teaching, and therefore Judaisms teaching, is that people are more important than the commandments, just like Jesus said!

I am used to the translation saying "fulfill" (probably no big difference just my pespective here) in Matthew 5:17 (KJV). In matthew 28:1, the approached the open sepulchre "In the end of the sabbath..." & in Matthew 28:9 as they went to tell the disciples about the open tomb, they encountered the risen Lord "and they came & held him by the feet, and worshipped him." (Matthew 28:9). So our Lord has fulfilled the sabbath & now on the 8th day is our worship as we prepare to enter the heavenly kingdom as we remain faithful in our earthly life.

I dont know which translation you have here but the end isnt quite correct. The literal translation is "I come not to destroy but to fulfil".

In Judaism "to fulfil" means to correctly interpret, so it should read "I come not to destroy [the law] but to correctly interpret it."

Dear Usama.Egyptian. When the Pharisees accused Jesus of breaking the Sabbath, Jesus and His disciples had been seen picking corn, to eat while they were hungry, and another time, Jesus had been healing a beggar. In both cases Jesus told them: " people are not for the Sabbath, the Sabbath is for people." Which is true, people still need to eat, and heal the sick. I say this with love, Usama.
