I was baptised last week and am trying to make sense of events that lead me to where I am now.

17 years ago my brother was diagnosed with cancer. Upon receiving news that he had only 2 months to 2 years to live, I begged God to take him quickly and not have him suffer more than necessary. I promised God if he did this that I would commit to Him and follow him.

Within weeks a nagging leg pain I had had for months was found to be a non malignant tumour which was operated on, and my brother died only 7 weeks after being given his terminal diagnosis.

I have spent 17 years believing God did some miracle for me, and that I had helped my brother but am doubting this now.

Would God have done this, or has Satan deceived me?

Congratulations on your baptism. :)

I wonder why you're doubting this now and believe Satan may have deceived you?
It sounds like he, (the devil) may be having a go at you now and trying to upset you after the experience of your baptism.
Remember, Jesus was also tempted after he was baptised.

The bible tells us:

Jas 1:16-17 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

Every good thing comes from God. God will often answer our prayers, even if we don't yet know Him. As an outsider, not being God, I don't know to what degree He was involved. But know God, not the devil does the good in our circumstances.

God takes people when He has decided to take them, our date of death is know to God even before our birth, so your prayer is not responsible for what happened with your brother.

God never deviates from His perfected plans. Faith in God's supreme knowledge stops Satan in his tracks.

Welcome to CF. I'm not sure I understand your doubt but I can only speculate. It's possible the wager you placed on our Father is now making you feel troubled. You promised God you would comit to Him if He granted your request. You decided 17 years later to come through with your promise.
Now He has made His home in you. With that, a converted Christian will know the truth through the Holy Spirit's conviction in their life. It is part of making you aware of sins that require repentance. Blessings

Welcome to the forum.

Just a notification, you have posted in an open forum where Christian and non-christians can relpy. I know your not asking for my advice, so I will not give any, but if you don't want the opions of non-christians I would recommend going to the Christian only forums in the future.

Would God have done this, or has Satan deceived me?

Hi :) this is not how it works. Many years ago I would visit this elderly man to read the word of God to him or play bible tapes (dated my self lol) He could only moan but LOVED the word of God. One day reading the word and just talking to God I said "you gave me this burned for this man so I have a right to ask why he is not being healed?" He came right back said "remember when Daniel prayed?" I said ok if this is really you where is that written?" He again answered said "Daniel 10 9-12. " What He said was Satan had built up such a huge hedge that a simple prayer is not enough. The part I left out was I had never read the book of Daniel or the OT. I had heard I think of that story but no CLUE where in the bible it was.

If by deceiving you ..you mean saying GOD take him I would agree. In the Gospels what did Christ do? He went around healing ALL. He has never changed. YOU did nothing wrong here. NO your bother did not go home because you said what you did.. in case you think that :) I could dive deeper but the thoughts you have now are not of God. You might be shocked at how many of US have said that exact same thing :) Whats written is Satan comes to kill steal and destroy.

Yes amen talking to someone walking strong in the faith such as a pastor if this still bothers you is very wise. Bless you in JESUS name

Good grief. It was cancer. There's nothing to say beyond that. Stop looking for demons behind everything that's bad. The way of the world is that there are joys and suffering and the suffering isn't about satan. In your case - it was cancer. Cancer happens.

Hello yes I did speak to senior pastor and their reaction is why I have posted here. She doesn't think it was God, and then excused herself and left so I am confused.

God could do "deals" if it was he who was initiating them.
For example he said to the people of Israel, if you keep my Covenant, you will know me and I will bless you. Some might see/have seen that as being conditional.

What isn't right is if we try to do deals with God; i.e. "If you do this for me, I will ..........."
Because God is merciful and gracious he may sometimes use and/or bless that anyway; but it's not generally the way of doing things.

There is nothing wrong with doubt or questions, so long as you seek answers.

Start with the character of God and work from there. Everything we belief starts with God, if you don't belief that or trust God then all you can expect are doubts.
