• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did America Bring the Attacks On Itself??

Gwynn,

As for being an isolated country, Belgium is hardly on anyones list for being a modern day empire. It seems to me that it does a pretty good job of keeping it's nose out of everyone's business. So how do they get repaid:

I recommend this link to anyone who entertains the idea that if we just sit here and be quiet and mind our own business, then all will be ok.

Because you only see the bad. So far as our culture is concerned your right. I believe America has created a place where men can freely accept Christ or reject him, without fear of persecution in either direction. I believe America's has a good heart for feeding, clothing and providing medicines to the world and for creating the most successful free Country the planet has ever known. Everything the good and the bad needs to also be taken into account.. God doesn't owe American's anything. But we ask for his grace.

i have a problem with the "god bless america" stuff because it seems there is an implied phrase at the end attempting to exclude all other countries from god's blessings.  i looked all over for a "god bless afghanistan" bumper sticker after 9-11 to no avail.

as far as america bringing the attacks on itself, i think while the premise may be accurate, the language of the title of this thread is a little threatening. i believe that the attacks on the trade towers were unjustified because they were attacks on civilians. but america has a strong military presence in many countries in the middle east--a military presence that most people in those countries object to. consider how you would feel if there were chinese troops stationed in america, and you can start to get an idea of how people around the world must feel. the american government is in a constant state of bullying other countries around the world to make stuff a little easier for america. these countries are eventually going to retaliate. but i think killing civilians is completely wrong, however, so terrorist attacks are absolutely abhorrent. however, i also believe that killing civilians is wrong when america does it, too.

Datan... wake up!! It is a military of the people, it follows the orders of elected officials. We don't have a rouge Army. The fact that you would even imply such a thing stips you of all credibility. Another sad example of a lefty unable to tell the difference between the United States and Iraq. I extend the same sentiment to Caley.

1. I resent your personal attacks. That's against forum rules. Does everyone who disagrees with your point of view "stripped of all credibility" and "sad examples"? Then I guess there's no point debating with you.

2. read my post carefully. I was remarking that the governments of the countries where the US has based its troops may not be reflecting their wills of their respective countries. Regardless of what I meant and what you understood, that's still no reason to make personal attacks on me and argue that simply because I make a statement you disagree with that I have no credibility.

datan, alonesoldier is ready to ship out now and won't be back until he gets back on American soil unless he gets lucky and runs into a pc in the desert.

So........

From some of the posts that I've seen here in the News forum, this wasn't that bad.  But, if someone states that you have no credibility, and need to wake up in the future, I'll address them.

No I dont think America brought the attack on itself. The attack was brought on by the Taliban who are jealous of our wealth, freedom, and power. They had no reason to hate us we have not done anything to them.

The United States government has a long history of propping up unpopular governments in other countries and staging military operations in countries that don't want its involvement.  The terrorists could not care how free we are, or how wealthy.  They only see the American troops in their countries and hate the sight.

Well said that man.

If only others had your perspective!
