  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What brand of diapers do you use? We have tried all of the major name brands. I've found that from time to time they all leak and one doesn't seem any better than another.

We paid $13.00 for a pack of 60 Luvs and then I say 100 store brand diapers for like $15. I'm thinking of trying store brand diapers to save a little $. Does anyone use store brand? Are they just as good at name brand? What's the difference?

Butt shape, butt shape of your kid matters more IMO than the brand. both my DCs did great with the luvs, some friends had girls who couldn't stand luvs, they used huggies. My cousin loved the walmart store brand, and hated luvs. It is really a butt shape/size more than the brand.

BTW didn't answer cause both are PTed, if you really want to save money EC your kid, DD did and was trained at 16 mo, out of diapers at a year.

One of our 'care packages' from church - by far the most practical gift - was a large basket of all the different types and brands of diapers that was available. So we tried them all. And ended up liking Huggies best.

As far as leaking, if you have a son, hint: penis down, not up. ;) No leaks!

We used several store brand and they leaked very often for us. Luvs, Pampers and Huggies work for us. Luvs has this horrible smell though. I don't like it. This survey is rather limited, there is a lot between store brand and brand name in my opinion. The difference in price between Luvs and Huggies is significant. Also, when my son was a newborn only Pampers Swaddlers worked because he was so small and skinny. Also you have to buy them in boxes. A box of 100ish Huggies is 19 dollars. So 13 for 60 is not so good.

Yup, Bottom loading, Not front loading. ;) Pampers seemed to work well for us. We used the cruisers after he got mobile and never had a problem.

we use store brand, right now we are useing the Target Brand, but most of the time it is the Wal-mart brand. I have tried Luvs (hated them, they didn't fit Christian right), Huggies (Same as Luvs) and Pampers (I loved these, they fit just right.)

We use cloth ... have since our second son came home from the hospital. I wish I had used them on our first son; I will never go back to disposible again. They work great, there's a variety of styles (and money options), you can often support other stay-at-home mom's by buying their products (the best stuff is found on the Internet, not in the stores), and you are saving those landfills! There is also a growing body of evidence about the health risks associated with disposible diapers including asthma problems and future infertility issues. When you have the good stuff (even very inexpensive prefolds and wrap-style covers purchased on-line) they work as well, if not better, than disposibles. If you have any questions, please feel free to IM me or post here. :)

We use a little of everything. ;) Prefolds are a must have - we started with the infant sized and they fit my son pretty well from the beginning (but he was almost 10 lbs at birth!). I also use fitteds and a few pockets/all-in-ones. One of my favorite places to shop is Diaperware. Inge, the owner, is super nice and she has an amazing selection. She carries Muttiquin and Sugarpeas fitted diapers - both of which I really like. She also has a really good selection and variety of covers - we use a combo of pul covers and wool covers. I love to sew, so I also use a lot of me-made diapers for my son too. I would definitely recommend spending some time at Diaperware and checking out her selection (and I'm not affiliated with her at all but have had consistently good transactions with her). If you have any more questions, please ask! :)

We are planning on cloth for our third, do we have to use the expensive kinds or will generic ones from walmart or target work?

You could get by with the cloth from walmart/target but it's not nearly to the same quality as what you can get on-line. If you do go with store-bought cloth, be sure to find the Gerber DSQ prefolds - they are "Diaper Service Quality". But, you can still go pretty inexpensive buying on-line. If you get 2-3 dozen infant prefolds (cpf's - chinese prefolds), 2-3 dozen premium sized prefolds, and about 4 ProRap covers in each size, you could probably cloth diaper your child for about $500 from birth to potty training. (Compare that with usually $1400 - $2500 for disposibles, depending on brand.)

Here are Bummis covers which are good and pretty leak-proof).
Here's Chinese prefolds - those and Indian prefolds are the best you can get though Chinese prefolds are a bit wider and seem to fit a bit longer around the waist.
I love wool at night - we've never had a leak at night (and my son nursed all night before we night-weaned him at 18 months) with Sugarpeas wool. If you use wool only at night, you probably only need 1 or 2 covers in small and medium (my 23+lb 18 month old still wears mediums).
Here's a link for Proraps. Proraps are great because they wash super easy and last forever (they are what most diaper services use so they are made to stand up to the vigors of washing).

I'll link more in a bit ... gotta go get ready cause Grandpa's coming over to take the boys and me on a walk for bagels. :yum:

From all of my research (and trust me it has been EXTENSIVE) I don't see anything that suggests walmart or target cloth diapers are very good. There is a woman who has her own little store online and she has proven to be very reliable and trustworthy. I have only had one problem and that was with someone I met here actually who never sent what she promised. Luckily she only has $7 of my money. Anyway Theresa is very nice. She works through ebay so you can read up on her reliablility. Her email is diapers@gmail.com

I also think part of whether a diaper is good or not is how we put it on. I dare say most dads aren't as good as their wives. But other factors, such as a diaper change at 3 am in zombie-like fashion, in the car on the side of the highway(!), or at a gas station washroom with no counter space all affect how well the diaper fits and performs.

Huggies are the best for us. My baby has super-sensitive skin, and store brands irritate him. As for name brands, huggies fit him best, the others sag in the rear (he has next to know hiney, poor thing. Have a hard time finding pants that stay on, too.)

thanks to mylittlewonders and EmSchmem, Ill check out some of those sits, unfortunatly I don't have 500 but maybe a couple for starters would work.
you don't have to have $500 right off. You could probably do it for $150 or for the first few months and build from there. Also, Theresa will do a registry type thing for you if ask nicely. PRefolds and covers are the cheapest route and I have heard many good things about the reliablilty.
