Reve 19:12 The yet eyes of Him *as flame of fire and upon the head of Him diadems/diadhmata <1238>, many, having a name having been written which no-one has seen except He.

A diadem is a type of crown, specifically an ornamental headband worn by Eastern monarchs and others as a badge of royalty. The word derives from the Greek διάδημα diadema, from διάδηω diadeo to bind round, or fasten.

The term originally referred to a white ribbon, ending in a knot and two strips often placed on the shoulders, that surrounded the head of the king to denote his authority. It was applied later to a crown, generally in a circular shape. For example, the crown worn by the kings of Anglo-Saxon England was a diadem, as was that of a baron later (in some countries surmounted by three globes). The ancient Celts were believed to have used a thin semioval gold plate called a mind (Old Irish) as a diadem.

A diadem is also a jeweled ornament in the shape of a half crown, worn by women and placed over the forehead (in this sense, also called tiara). In some societies, it may be a wreath worn around the head. The ancient Persians wore a high and erect royal tiara encircled with a diadem.

By extension, "diadem" can be used generally for an emblem of regal power or dignity.

Could that also symbolize a type of Turban used by the High Priest in the OT? Ezekiel 21:26 mentions both a Crown and Turban. I need to check the LXX and see what these words look like in the greek.......

Ezekiel 21:25 and thou profane wicked prince of Israel whose day of him comes in a time of iniquity of end. 26 Thus He say my Lord YHWH 'remove! the Turban/04701 mitsnepheth and heave the Crown/05850 `atarah this not this, the low one to elevate and the lofty one to abase of.

5850 `atarah at-aw-raw' from 5849; a crown:--crown.

4701 mitsnepheth mits-neh'-feth from 6801; a tiara, i.e. official turban (of a king or high priest):--diadem, mitre

I finally found the hebrew/greek word for "diadem" used in Revelation by looking it up in the LXX OT and it is used 4 times.

http://www.studylight.org/isb/bible.cgi?query=isaiah+62%3A3&section=0&it=kjv&oq=isaia%252062%3A3&ot=lxx&nt=tr&new=1

6797 tsaniyph tsaw-neef' or tsanowph {tsaw-nofe'}; or (feminine) tsaniyphah {tsaw-nee-faw'}; from 6801; a head-dress (i.e. piece of cloth wrapped around):--diadem, hood, mitre. 6801 tsanaph tsaw-naf' a primitive root; to wrap, i.e. roll or dress:--be attired, X surely, violently turn.

http://www.scripture4all.org/

Job 29:14 Righteousness I put on and He is clothing me as robe and diadem/6797 tsaniyph judgment of me.

Isaiah 3:23 And the rolls and the shirts and the diadems/6797 tsaniyph and the draperies

Isaiah 62:3 And thou become crown of beauty in hand of YHWH and diadem/6797 tsaniyph of royalty in palm of Elohiym of thee

Zech 3:5 And I am saying 'they shall place diadem/6797 tsaniyph clean on head of him' and they are placing the diadem/6797 tsaniyph the clean on head of him. And they are clothing him garments and Messenger of YHWH is standing.

I found out this site actually has an LXX Interlinear, the first one I have seen with strong #s.....Fantastic!!! :)

Interestingly the word for crown is used only 4 times in the Gospels and that at the trial of Jesus when a throny crown was put upon His head. The first time crown is used in the OT is when Joab and David take the city of Rabbah/sons of Ammon in 2 Samuel.

2 Samuel 12:30 And he is taking the crown/05850 `atarah of king of them from on his head and weight of it talent of gold and stone precious and was on head of David and loot of the city(Rabbah) he brought forth much, esceedingly [1 Chrono 20:2]

5850 `atarah at-aw-raw' from 5849; a crown:--crown.5849 `atar aw-tar' a primitive root; to encircle (for attack or protection); especially to crown (literally or figuratively):--compass, crown.

Matthew 27:29 And braiding a crown/stefanon <4735> out of thorns, they place upon His head and a reed in right right of him and they knee-falling before Him they scoff Him saying, "be joying/hail! the King of the Judeans"! [Mark 15:17, John 19:2,5]

4735. stephanos stef'-an-os from an apparently primary stepho (to twine or wreathe); a chaplet (as a badge of royalty, a prize in the public games or a symbol of honor generally; but more conspicuous and elaborate than the simple fillet, 1238), literally or figuratively:--crown. [Used 18 times in NT, 4 times in Gospels, 6 times in Epistles, 8 times in Revelation.
